Culture offers metaphors that may predict reality.
Like the super humanoid in the Alien sequel Prometheus, America strides the globe like a nine-foot giant.
But it is overwhelmed by the tentacles of an octopus-like creature: the tentacles of the Middle East, China, fentanyl, MAGA, immigration, gun violence, racial divisions, and culture wars. The giant succumbs and is impregnated with the seed of destruction. Its body splits open, and a fascist monster emerges.
