This lady is right. It doesn't work. All you have to do is look at the dark blue areas of the country who have this shit and they have the highest levels of income and wealth inequality, the most violence, the most homelessness, etc.
Then look at the socialist countries where these people are flocking from to come here illegally, and the left welcome them with open arms to get the hell out of their shithole countries while the left favor the very same policies which caused these people to flee their socialist countries.
Thank God that many years ago I must have been struck by lightening while I was sleeping and woke up to see the whole truth and nothing but the truth. Socialism doesn't work.

Communism doesn't work, it's failed every time it's been tried. Why? Because people are greedy, and lust after power.
We make war and kill our cousins and neighbors. That kumbaya crap is incredibly naive.

Every Communist regime in history has had a dictator.
That's the way human beings are. Heirarchical. Everyone has their station in life. Do you know anything about animal behavior? Bullies for instance exist in all species. So do scammers. A female gorilla will issue a fake mating call to lure the male away from his food.
This is part of survival behavior, it's genetic, you can't turn it off. Psychology tells us that bullies are fundamentally insecure, they have a need to control things because they're scared, so they find a method that works for them. Laziness is the same way, some people are experts at being lazy. In a competitive system the boundaries are set automatically and accommodate human behavior. If you don't work you starve, so it sets an upper bound on your laziness.
There's two main problems with communism. Firstly it's incompatible with human nature. Human society is a pressure cooker, you have to find a way to let everyone be who they are. Capitalism allows that, communism doesn't. Greed is good on Wall Street, violence is good in the boxing ring. Or, you can just work for a living and raise a family. Either way you don't have party members breathing down your neck all the time, and you don't have to stand in line for bread.
And secondly, communism is difficult to manage because it requires universal participation which means a large bureaucracy to administer it. Whereas capitalism optimizes efficiency, and things settle to their own level without the need for constant control - in American society the law only defines the "boundaries" of what is acceptable, the oversight is minimal and it lets everyone operate pretty freely within that space.
They're EXPENSIVE. There's no free lunch in this. And central points of control are central points of failure. As we've seen in all the areas you just mentioned.
We want a distributed self organizing system. You can't drive a square peg into a round hole, the best you can do is gently constrain the dynamics of the system so they don't exceed certain boundaries.
All economies depend on resources. If you're a hippie in a commune you still have to make sure you have enough resources for the "commun"ity to survive. In a capitalist system there is an incentive to exploit and consume resources, and the payoff is a better standard of living. Barter is a fundamentally capitalist concept.
