the impeached, could prevent being removed from office, and prevent being
disqualified from holding office.

As the senate as jurors, vote "in public", the accused could at the moment a vote
reaches 2/3rds voting guilty, but before the vote is tallied, submit his resignation,
effective immediately.

If that resignation could stop the trial, there could never be a conviction.

They will be able to investigate whomever they want simply by a majority vote, including investigating the Jan 6th committee. And they can appoint whomever they want to that committee all with a far right anti-democratic status. No one will be allowed on the committee who is an anti-Trumper, not one.

When Republicans win the House they could theoretically appoint Trump Speaker of the House and impeach both Biden and Harris. And it would all be following the Constitution. What goes around comes around.
