The efficacy of repetition, and so much more.

The harm of repeating the false link between immigration and crime

Even recognizing that a statement is false becomes more difficult when someone repeatedly hears false information.

In what cognitive scientists call the “illusory truth effect,” the more someone hears a statement, the more likely they are to believe it. A leading explanation for the phenomenon is that repetition makes information easier to process, making it seem more truthful. A 2021 study found that even as the greatest increase in perceived truth happened when subjects heard a piece of information a second time, subjects reported perceptions of truth increased with repetition up to nine times, and didn’t decrease with further repetition.

Falsely linking immigration and crime has resulted in real policies. These include Secure Communities, a Department of Homeland Security Program that flags immigrants in local law enforcement custody for deportation, and the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s 287(g) program, which delegates some immigration enforcement tasks to local law enforcement.

Before I go any further I'd be remiss for not mentioning how chock full this article is of factual info debunking trump's immigration lies. It's worth a top to bottom read.

One lie that gets repeated frequently (two for those who are counting), and was repeated again yesterday by the former weekend talking head at Fox during a congressional hearing..............

Iran Crisis Overshadowed as Senators Squabble at Hearing

..........is there are 21M illegal immigrants in the US as a result of Biden's "open border" policy. Being a well practiced liar from the #1 source of RWM disinformation, the lies roll off Pete's tongue with alacrity. Which is why he was nominated to be in Don's cabinet.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth was asked early in the hearing whether he would ignore court orders regarding the domestic use of troops, if ordered to do so by Mr. Trump.

“I don’t believe district courts should be setting national security policy,” Mr. Hegseth said as Democrats questioned him about the legality of sending military personnel to Los Angeles amid protests over immigration raids. Pressed further, he said he would honor a ruling by the Supreme Court.

Frankly, Charlotte, I don't give a damn what you think district courts should or shouldn't be doing. You and your boss don't get to pick and choose which court orders to obey. In America, where officials like the Sec. of Defense (and prez) take an oath to uphold the Constitution, court orders are sacrosanct until overruled on appeal. No matter how many times you repeat assertions to the contrary.
Is the trafficking of immigrant kids for sexual exploitation made up? How about the torture, rape and murder of young women at girls by illegal immigrants? Or the takeover of apartment complexes by Tren De Aragua? Or the tens of thousands of deaths caused by the Fentanyl carried into the country by illegal drug mules? I could go on and on with these IRREFUTABLE FACTS but clueless Trump Haters like you pretend they didn't happen. Are you paid by the Drug Cartels to post? :dunno:

Well, the false link is claiming that anyone said there is a link between immigration and crime....there isn't.

there is a link between illegal immigration and crime, as illegal immigration is a crime.

Try and keep up.

Nobody but the Democrats are linking Immigration and Crime but they do it to denigrate the absolute verifiable link between illegal migrants and crime.

They refuse to distinguish between normal legal immigration and migrant invasion.

It is a fact that LEGAL immigrants, those who apply through normal channels, are provided visas to come here with the understanding they will give up allegiance to their former country and become Americans, are among the most law abiding people.

It is also a fact that an unacceptable percentage of illegal migrants that were invited/allowed to invade our country do commit crime, vandalism, breaking and entering, and violent assault, rape, murder. No all migrants do not do that. But far too many do.

Frankly, I don't know if Dembots know the difference between illegal immigration and immigration. They only see it as people here without authority to be here, that they can exploit for cheap labor, and those they can't. They want more people here they can exploit, because they are bigots and don't care about basic human rights.

They know the difference. But they lump them all together in order to defend the illegals. Intellectual honesty is not their strong suit.

No Mike. All that is either made up or exaggerated

If it is your daughter violently raped and murdered by a migrant who never should have been allowed to be here, I wonder how you would then see it.

Just in the migrant shelters alone--this in no way describes all the problem--in NYC:

Just by the fact they came in illegally make them commit a crime. Probably most do not commit additional crimes once they get here. But an unacceptable percentage of them do. The protection and safety of American citizens should be the first responsibility of government.

I’d feel about the same as if a MAGA creep did that.

If you had all been disappeared it wouldn’t have happened right?

Whenever I see "fact-checking", I settle in for a heapin' helping of spin and assertions of opinion as fact. And sure enough, the article in the OP did not disappoint. I found this in the first 30 seconds of reading:

“None of them [policies that flag illegal immigrants in LEO custody or delegate immigration enforcement to local authorities] delivered the increased public safety that was promised,” said Charis Kubrin, a professor of criminology, law and society at the University of California, Irvine. “Why? Because immigrant criminality was not a problem to begin with.”

According to Kubrin, this focus shifts attention and resources from other public safety concerns such as mass shootings, violence against women and crimes with broad economic impact like fraud, corporate negligence and failure in regulation.
First of all, Kubrin conflates legal and illegal immigration. As usual.

Secondly, asserting these policies do not help increase public safety is just that - an assertion, not a fact. A significant percentage of people in prisons are immigrants legal and illegal and deporting them would absolutely reduce "immigrant criminality".

Third, the next unproven assertion that immigrant criminality was not a problem to begin with. Really? What if you are a victim of it? I bet you would think it's a big problem. Is Kubrin saying there's not a lot of immigrant crime? What would he say is the "acceptable level" of immigrant crime?

Fourth, is the again unproven assertion that focusing on illegal immigrants take the focus away from other public safety concerns. It does not. There are entirely separate groups of LEOs that deal with each. ICE deals with deportations, the police with local crimes. If local police want to help enforce immigration law, the Feds would compensate them for the time and manpower.

But the kicker is adding "mass shootings" to the list of other safety concerns. Statistically, you're about as likely to die in a mass shooting as you are being struck by lightning. So why isn't this a "not a problem to begin with"?

This is not wash, rinse, spin, repeat. This is just spin, repeat, spin, repeat.

What????

Like I said, baby steps.
First thing is to get the foot in the door.

And yet your 26,000 posts have changed no minds.

You know, sometimes my mind wanders and I think about 500,000 years in the future when we are all gone and aliens reach our planet, find we are all gone and investigate us. They do archaelogy and dig up sites to find out what we were like and they discover our evidence that there were 65 genders and men got pregant and they shake their heads in disbelief, either thinking it must be true, that it is just our mythology, or thinking how insane these people were and that that is what must have killed them off.

The 2nd one.

More liberal lies, everyvillegal alien is a criminal. Those folks are the in group in America with a 100% criminal population. Pathetic.

The efficacy of repetition, and so much more.

Thank you Berg! For pointing out that there is nothing more efficient than repetition. Repetition is the essence of every efficient and effective object in this universe, from the electric motor to the combustion engine.

Dude, you're really 🔥 HOT 🔥 today.

The past 4 years immigration policy from the Biden administration was
no more than creating a new voting block for the left. fact
There was a lot of negative layers with the open borders. fact
AND all of Biden's LIES about there's nothing that can be done without new legislation was complete horseshit! Yesterday it was reported the number of border jumpers had gone from 64,000 a month under Biden to...wait for it...ZERO!
