Heard this line on a show I'm watching (The Alienist - good show so far) turns out it's a variation on an old saying...maybe some of you have heard it one form or another...

Not agreeing or disagreeing or anything else, just liked it:

What's the difference between Capitalism and Socialism?

With Capitalism it's Man exploiting Man. With Socialism it's the other way around.

Interesting OP. Thanks!
Exploitation is subjective and one could argue it is marxist. In my readings, it seemed like marx felt the value of something was determined by labor only. He didnt include financial risk, distribution etc
Although full fledged capitalism can exploit man in the process of conquest, monopolies etc however, that is my opinion.

Exploitation is evil in Socialism. Exploitation is mutual in Capitalism.

I agree with Harley on risk. It should be accounted for and rewarded.

Just for context apparently the original 'saying' if that's what it is came out of Poland a long time ago and it was the difference between capitalism and communism.

I just appreciate the cleverness, to be honest.

To one man, it is exploitation. To another, it is consensual happiness.

It does have a symmetrical ring to it.

The quote seems to be credited to JK Galbraith. IIRC, he was a statist.

JK Galbraith
I just looked into that dude. Damn, he was a ******* asshole.

Apparently, his book The Affluent Society advocated for all decisions to be placed in the hands of an aristocracy of "higher minds" which is the result of those statist societies anyway. The proletariat (low class) overthrows the bourgeoisie (middle class) leaving everyone in the low class, ruled by the aristocracy.

**** that asshole.
