There was no communism in the USSR, honey. Communism was the goal.
And on the question of how "communism" worked for Russia - well, from a country devastated by the Civil War (thanks to the Entente countries for that) the communists created in a very short time a country capable of surpassing production and defeating the vanguard of world imperialism - Nazi Germany.
And then, overcoming enormous destruction and unimaginable human losses, they rebuilt the economy and led mankind into outer space.
People build socialism, they create it. In this process, both mistakes and outright sabotage and betrayal are possible. Which is what happened in the Soviet Union, but the idea remained and the future of mankind is behind it, if it wants to survive.
