Yea, and I believe Ike knew what a clusterfuck it would have been if he crossed the Elbe and pushed on Berlin, knowing full well how many prisoners would have been heading their way. There is still debate on the Allied handling of POW's after Germany surrendered, some reports out there many prisoners died of neglect, but of course, still far better than marching east to Russia.Berlin was a bloody and savage battle because the Red Army was fighting it. At the same time German cities were surrendering to the WAllies with only minor resistance by diehard Nazis. Germans were going out of their way to surrender to the WAllies. They knew the war was over.
