It's true, not just with Obama, but with many presidents. They promise people things that government isn't even supposed to do. Obama made many lofty promises and we are worse off now for it.
Right now, the only people enamored with Obama are those expecting amnesty after they sneak into our country illegally. He is promising them that he will go against federal laws and give them what they want. Think about that. While warning citizens that Obamacare is law and we must obey, they are telling non-citizens that federal laws will be rendered null and void. And without congress voting. Obama is waving his pen and phone like a magic wand and making laws that he doesn't like disappear.
There are too many people who believe that mere politicians have the power to better their lives, with no effort on their own part. They have been waiting over 50 years and still can't figure it out. Why do so many believe that government should have a huge role in their lives? I think most heard what they wanted to hear. Somehow, there is more free stuff in their future. Why would some care about the economy, jobs, taxes or that difficult to understand foreign policy as long as the money comes each month? And when more is promised to them? They're still waiting.
When the policies fail, they never admit it's because government was doing something it had no business doing and that they didn't know what they were doing. They always blame others. If only every person in the country would cede all power to them and obey their every command, things would be perfect. Damn that individualism and sense of liberty that prevents people from being the perfect sheeple. And the party that encourages that independence must go!

Obama was so convinced not only of the power of government, but of his ability to lead it, that he actually talked about the planet healing and rise of the oceans reversing, just because he got elected. ItÂ’s astonishing to look back and realize he actually said such things, and perhaps even more astonishing to think people still voted for him.

The fundamental flaw was this: Government neither has the power nor the competency to solve all the problems people want it to solve. And the people who think it does – and thus try to become its leaders – tend to be more than a little delusional not only about the power of government but about their own brilliance. They abuse the power of agencies like the IRS because they are convinced their own political survival is the most important thing on the planet, and they concoct justifications for doing whatever they think they need to do.
