In a Republic, actually
‘This is not a negotiation; it’s a photo-op. A show. A scripted performance in which the ending has already been decided — and not by the people of Ukraine. You see, Trump wants to slap “The Peace President” on a MAGA hat, maybe even pick out a tux for the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony. He’s thinking about legacy, not liberty. His legacy, not Ukraine’s. He knows the war has become a political liability in the U.S., and he’s betting that if he can “end” it — no matter how — it’ll be the crowning moment of his second term. More than Armenia and Azerbaijan. More than India and Pakistan. A moment he can ride straight into history books, preferably the glossy ones with his face on the cover.

Putin, on the other hand, isn’t flying to Alaska for the scenic glaciers. He’s there for the land he’s already stolen and the land he still wants: the occupied regions of Ukraine, plus the mineral rights, plus whatever other goodies are hiding in the fine print. He’s playing the long game, and for Putin, this meeting is the perfect opportunity to get what he wants without having to give up much of anything — if anything at all. All he has to do is toss Trump enough of a “win” to keep the handshake cameras clicking.’

Trump, forever Putin’s useful idiot.

says the forums useless idiot.....

After the humiliation of Trump ending the Armenian-Azerbaijan war, if this negotiation ends the Russian - Ukrainian war, democrats with be livid. Will it be mass murder or mass suicide?

It is clear that Trump is now being forced to come up with something tangible - something that would be deemed a significant concession on the part of Putin. Without that concession, even if it is symbolic, Trump will walk away from this with egg on his face.

But the optics are spectacular, even if most Americans don't recognize it.

Most Russians FEEL that the U.S. "stole" Alaska from Russia via the transaction commonly referred to as "Seward's Folly." And because this feeling is so prominent in the Russian psyche, having this meeting in Alaska is The Donald rubbing it in their figurative face.

I love it.

Again, Trump cannot get away with another fluff collection at this point. He has to come back with a significant concession.
