Some in both parties have tried for years to get laws passed which require natural gas companies to meet a domestic sales quota on natural gas or pay extra taxes on gas sold overseas. It never passes. Natural gas companies make a lot of money exporting their products, more than they make selling it at home, and they care more about the profits than about helping their country.
