I worked today. I had the misfortune of waking to my neighborÂ’s alarm clock; he gets up an hour before I do. I can hear his alarm through the wall and usually sleep through it, but today it triggered something in my subconscious and it woke me up. Today my neighborÂ’s alarm sounded like the same alarm that they play over the loudspeakers to announce a base attack. There was no going back to sleep. I donned a suit and tie, complete with my Afghan-American flag lapel pin and shot out some text messages. Somehow I managed to make my way to the office without the benefit of caffeine.
ItÂ’s Thanksgiving, which under normal circumstances is probably my favorite holiday of the year. ItÂ’s uncomplicated by gifts and religion, and focuses on family and a time of plenty. The weather is usually good and it offers hope at work for the longer holiday break ahead.
