Simply stating that China wants to stop copy cat crimes, and does so by hiding this news from people.
And you have mass shootings and you have mass shootings. Literally some people's definition of "mass shooting" in the US is "X amount of people killed and not gang related"

Why?
Because, as I've said before, the media is about making money. Gangs shooting each other is not news any more. It's boring, been there, done that. It doesn't impact the people who watch the news.
What impacts the people who watch the news are killings like this, random, aimed at "normal people".
