"It opens the door to discrimination," Harris Co. Sheriff Ed Gonzales told ABC13. Senate Bill 4 goes into effect in March, but Rep. Joaquin Castro asked the Department of Justice to stop the law authorizing officers to arrest migrants.

Texas Senate Bill 4, which is the controversial law that gives local law enforcement in Texas the ability to arrest people they believe are in the country illegally, was signed by Gov. Greg Abbott during a ceremony in Brownsville Monday afternoon.
ABC News obtained a letter from Rep. Joaquin Castro asking the Department of Justice to intervene and prevent SB 4 from going into effect.
The letter was sent to Attorney General Merrick Garland shortly after Abbott signed SB 4, according to ABC News. The letter is also signed by Democrats in the Texas U.S. House Delegation and of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Prominent Latinos in Congress looked on quietly, at first, privately raising concerns with the Biden administration over the direction of border security talks.

Democratic Sen. Alex Padilla of California was on the phone constantly with administration officials questioning why the Senate negotiations did not include any meaningful consideration of providing pathways to citizenship for longtime immigrants lacking the proper legal documents.

New Mexico Democrat Sen. Ben Ray Luján made similar arguments as he tried to get meetings with top-level White House officials.

There has to be some form of internal enforcement if we are ever to undo 60 years of criminal negligence by the US government. Sorry for dreamers, but there has to be some sort of accounting. This all started with Teddy Boy Kennedy, the Hero of Chappaquiddick, and his 1965 immigration "reform" that started this mess, and LBJ with his Great Society which sought the black vote for 100 years. We already have immigration laws and asylum laws and all that is needed is that they are enforced. We had laws with Ellis Island and no one was admitted without being vetted and passed a health exam. They are coming in and released with a disease like TB and some of them I have seen in my neighborhood I would not hire to work in my barn with my farm animals.
