Whenever the tea party is accused of being racist, the apologists for this band of whiners are up in arms denying reality and asking for proof. More proof below.

Racism today hides behind dog whistle terms, such as Reagan's Cadillac mom (fictional), Gingrich's food stamp comment, Santorum's Freudian mumbles, Romney's welfare comments, and republican ads on welfare reform - that was actually requested by republican governors including Romney. Funny how things change.
"You start out in 1954 by saying, “******, ******, ******.” By 1968 you can’t say “******” — that hurts you. Backfires. So you say stuff like forced busing, states’ rights and all that stuff. You’re getting so abstract now you’re talking about cutting taxes, and all these things you’re talking about are totally economic things and a by-product of them is blacks get hurt worse than whites. And subconsciously maybe that is part of it. I’m not saying that. But I’m saying that if it is getting that abstract, and that coded, that we are doing away with the racial problem one way or the other. You follow me — because obviously sitting around saying, “We want to cut this,” is much more abstract than even the busing thing, and a hell of a lot more abstract than “******, ******.” Lee Atwater, Republican strategist, 1981, describing the Southern Strategy

"Some 500 were on hand for the Baxter County gathering. The audience included Sen. Missy Irvin (R-ALEC), who sent out a Tweet from the event: "Great rally this afternoon for the Ozark Tea Party in Baxter County. Great job @RichardCaster!" Cook has called on all the Republican politicians in that area to repudiate Ms. Marler. I'd be happy to add the words of any who'd choose to do so. Or defend Marler, for that matter." from above link
'PS — A politician doesn't face much risk telling race jokes in Baxter County, where the population is .2 percent black.'
'PPS — There are more white people on welfare than black people.'
"Because racial privilege cannot be separated from the defense of local liberty in American history, it is no surprise that the state has been seen by many whites - from Oxford Mississippi to Boston Massachusetts - as the enemy of their local liberty." George Shulman
