Tariff sticker shock

I'm pretty sure that his flock doesn't know what's happening globally, and what's happening to our financial status.

I don't think Fox and Tucker and Alex Jones tell them, and they sure as hell don't search anything out beyond their porch.

So it may be safe to assume that they figure everything's fine, and that this is no big deal.

That makes them even dumber because they understand full well what tariffs did to them the first time around. And here's Trump going around telling everyone he'll do even worse, this time around. Imagine telling your flock you're going to screw you over, and then cheering it on, and then be like, wtf after he does it. It's beyond belief.

It truly is. At some point I just concluded that this is about far more than economics or politics for them. This is about who they are, it's extremely personal and spiritual. There's no getting through to that. They have to wake up themselves at some point, if ever.

Trump's tariffs created an extended manufacturing recession in 2019 (U.S. manufacturing dives to 10-year low as trade tensions weigh), and what he did then was a drop in the bucket compared to this. This time he's alienated the entire world against us. Absolutely astonishing.

City intellectuals. Those stupid farmers have their weapons ready for you when/if the times comes. City folk have cashed a lot of checks never paid for. The farmers will be part of many who will collect payment when you run to those areas after an economic calamity for any reason.

🤡

Their entire identity and worth is wrapped around Trump and being a republican. Imagine being on the left and selling your soul to Joe Biden or Kamala Harris. I honestly can't think of anything more vomitious, but apparently tribalism and partisan politics with Trump at the helm is all these ppl live for.

What you're seeing is the Art of the Deal, and why he bankrupted himself multiple times and had 20 failed businesses.

Trump paid off farmers almost $30 billion last time because they were hurt by his tariffs.
But maybe not so much this time

When you say farmers you mean mega corporations that that are the major exporters to china

Grains are commodity goods. Everyone gets about the same price on the open market. It hurts small farmers more than large farmers because their margins are slimmer.

if anything, it’ll be far worse

America Alone. That's what they want.

I don't know why, outside of their various mal-informed paranoias. It's certainly not smart economics, but we already know they are macroeconomic illiterates like their New Savior™.

Yeah, we know you guys are brilliant. I see a lot of you brilliant folks as I cross to the other side of the tracks in my city. Strangely enough, I don’t see so many at the golf course or in my gated community. I guess brilliant people just prefer simpler life. Maybe I should spend more time on the other side of the tracks to get some advice on life and economics.

China cannot feed itsrlf

It will have to buy grain indirectly from America

Small farmers should not depend on our 1# enemy

It will bite them sooner or later

Small farmers should depend on government welfare?

Small farmers should depend on government welfare?
I’m shocked

A lib who does not worship at the feet of government welfare?

What is this world coming to?

We already have a massive farm program

and while much of the money spent goes go to your beloved mega corps, some does reach Green Acres and other small farms also

You’re completely incoherent.

Welfare is bad except when it’s good.

Exports are good except when it’s bad.

All you do is defend Trump, no matter how stupid it makes you look.

I think we will continue to export food, just not to china

he contracted for that price something happens and it’s more expensive for the producer isn’t his fault
It's not more expensive for the producer. It's more expensive for the buyer. That's who pays the tariff.

Why can you kids not understand that?

Haha no it’s more expensive for the producer because of the tariffs

You are clueless

tRump cannot impose taxes on other country's citizens. He can only tax us. We pay the tariffs.

A number of folks are getting lessons in who pays tariffs, and they aren't enjoying the experience.

We tied to tell them who was gonna pay, but they didn't listen, and now they are paying.

Nicholas Gilbert, a dairy farmer who operates Adon Farms in upstate New York, experienced tariff sticker shock when a routine shipment of cow feed from Ontario cost him $2,200 more than expected.

“I’m not even sure it’s legal! We contracted for the price on delivery,” he told The Atlantic. “If your price of fuel goes up or your truck breaks down, that’s not my problem! That’s what the contract’s for.”

Unfortunately for Gilbert, the tariff is very much legal. Like many American business owners, he mistakenly believed that tariffs on imported goods would be paid by the foreign exporter.

"mistakenly"? It's because he was lied to.
