Tariff bust: Trade deficit “ little changed” in 2025 - Wall Street journal

$18T in new CAPEX commitments is good for the US economy. GDP is up ~2.5%. The US economy is cranking up.
Who cares about the trade deficit when the economy is fantastic?

Trump has been a president for a year. The year, incidentally, in which real growth took a nosedive.

You’re a confused democrat that can’t remember when Biden was president

Wrong. That "2025" is the start of 2025 not the end of 2025.

Look at post #63, the only drop in GDP was Biden's last quarter. (if you know how to read a graph)

I know exactly what you typed. And my question was simple. You expect the trade deficit to shrink at a faster pace this year. Give me an estimate. Ballpark. My prediction is that you’re gonna say nothing at all.

You will talk about Hunter Biden before you go on a record saying how much you expect the trade deficit to shrink by the end of this year.. Because you don’t wanna be on a record failing like you always do.
MAGA's just loves them some higher taxes.

No, it isn't. As of this morning, GDP from all four quarters of 2025 is available, these figures are all for the full calendar year.

We had 2.2% real GDP growth in 2025. Down sharply from 2.8% real growth in 2024. Trump is shitting the bed.

If Trump just writes an EO to change the tariffs from IEEPA to 301 or some other section nothing changes.
Absolutely not.
The IEEPA tariffs were illegal, and have to be refunded.
Any new tariffs can't be retroactive.
As even the USSC said, that tax rule changes can't go retroactively beyond the current tax year.

Why can't the EO be retroactive? I didn't hear that the USSC said that, Trump said that they did NOT rule on the money.

Look again. Biden shit his pants...again.
That 1Q25 was BIDEN's negative growth, Trump's GDP is over 3% after his policies kicked in.

The problem is that tariffs don't work that way.

Tariffs are generally applied prospectively (forward-looking) rather than retroactive
By definition they are collected at the time of importation by the business doing the import.

All other sections are very limited . he just signed a pathetic 10% worldwide tariff package under section 122 because he can't do a high percentage anymore.

You missed the point of the tariffs. Revenue is up. Trade deals are much more fair.

2025 GDP growth was slower than in 2024.

Most of that tariff revenue is going to have to go back.

Doesn’t mean squat take a listen

You missed that he said the new tariffs would mean the 2026 tariffs would be the same, but imposed under different authority.

He missed having to refund all the 2025 tariffs.
