Where the wild things are
Rockets were fired from Syria into Lebanon Friday, landing in the Lebanese border town of Arsal, according to official state news.

The rockets have reportedly killed 7 and wounded at least 15.

According to Lebanese news outlet The Daily Star, facts on the ground contradict official news announcements, which state that only 1 rocket hit the city. Local security forces reportedly told the agency that at least seven rockets fell in the area.

In addition, security forces have reported to the Egyptian outlet Ahram Online that that number is closer to 20 - and includes both rockets and shells.

Arsal is in the Baalbek region, which is considered a Hezbollah stronghold. But while Hezbollah is Shi'ite, the town of Arsal itself has a Sunni majority.

I don't know when and why, but that is what happened.

rockets hit 4 houses directly. House which suffered most damage is owned by a family memeber of Arsal's mayor.

Two of the deceased are children. 6 of the injured are infants.

We still follow.

I know Israel has had stray rockets fired from Lebanon (and perhaps Syria but not sure) in the past few weeks.

From last June:

"The Lebanese army warned Wednesday it will respond to Syrian violations of Lebanese airspace after one man was wounded when Syrian helicopters fired rockets into the Bekaa border town of Arsal.

“'Army units deployed in the region and took the necessary defensive measures to respond immediately to any similar violation,' a statement from the Lebanese Army said.

"The statement said a helicopter coming from Syria 'violated Lebanese airspace” over Arsal, firing two rockets into the town’s square.'"
