Expecting any socialist country to have anything nice, or to be competent is just being unrealistic. Everything is owned by the government, and since they already collect your money through taxes, and in most cases don't allow the citizens(their property) to vote, they have no incentive to do anything well.
When Australia was Nationalised, it was the economically strongest its ever been and life was way cheaper, because national owned companies put profit back into maintenence and upgrading the company.
a privatised service, however, has its profits stripped by the shareholders(HALF of whom, are foriegn investors and take the money out of the economy). And the private companies, whether they be phone providers, energy providers etc, dont bother competing with each other. Istead they get together and decide on the prices they will charge.
why are you ignorant on this subject and im not? Because in my small nation i witnessed and experienced the transition from nationalisation to privatisation. It made life more expensive and less convenient. It sold off my country to foriegn investors and made us guests in our own soveriegn land.
The good thing about government owned services, is, if they arent being run well, YOU CAN VOTE THE BASTARDS OUT. Something you cant do with private companies when they create polyopolies and price hikes and lobby politicians to pass laws which allow them to charge you unjust fees in a way that you cannot fight them on it.
but hey, you're probably still worried about the cold war. The brain washing runs deep in the American mind.
