They have to compete, because there are always people traveling back and forth, and always want to make extra money off of their consumers. When they do agree on a price, it's usually middle ground. This only actually happens when there is only one option in certain areas, like here for example. We only have one power company in this area because the government combined them. If they're in the same area, doing so would limit their consumers drastically.

You're half wrong here. Yes, in most cases, you can vote out people in government seats. However, you can't vote out the government system, you have to find a person willing to give up all of that government power they have. You also can't vote out a "government service", you have to find someone who is willing to get rid of or change that service. With private companies, however, unless they're a monopoly, you vote with your money. If you don't like how they're doing something, you go buy from their competitor. In the cases of the lobbying of politicians, that can happen anywhere, in any system. Even from outside the country. Having privatized business doesn't make a country any more vulnerable to having their politicians bought.
No, no it is not. The 'less fortunate' are most often lazy, skilless, leeches on society. You measure a country's greatness by their advancement in technology, wealth, power, and the citizen's ability to take care of themselves. A great society has citizens that don't need to be looked after by their government.
Firstly, that's not how you measure how 'advanced' a country is. It's not the government's job to provide 'benefits', or 'social security', or 'healthcare'. There's money to be made in those things, the private sector can provide them with minimum cost and maximum quality. What has America done with its money? Wasted it on 160+ Federal Government agencies we don't need, prevented ourselves from using our natural resources, and used it to fund terrorists. I'd also like to point out that America's economy and GDP are better than Sweden's, even with a president that has done everything in his power to destroy it.
