"A dramatic drop in stop-and-frisk encounters has emboldened criminals and made cops more reluctant to take proactive police action, even as murders and shootings are on the rise in the city.

The frightening message — echoed by police supervisors and union leaders — comes as stop-and-frisk encounters are on pace to plunge by 42% this year, with 20,000 fewer street stops."

The public has spoken pretty loud and clear that they feel stop and frisk is racist and shouldn't be allowed.

Hopefully they are right and the reduced stops has no correlation with the increase in crimes. If not, then I guess folks have to get used to higher crime rates.

Duh. Saw it coming a mile away.

I wasn't aware that the public has spoken loud and clear about stop and frisk. Maybe in New York (it's Dinkins all over again).

As to the "folks" getting used to high crime, that's for the shit hole Democrat cities, then watch them whine about it.

It's been a gripe all over the country for a very long time (like since 1975,) NY put it back on the front page. Also the "Stop and Identify" laws as well. The majority don't think they should get "caught" unless they are doing something illegal - aka stopping someone on the street and finding drugs in their pocket isn't "fair" because they wouldn't have gotten caught if stop and frisk was illegal. Then there's the argument that the constitution protects ones privacy, so they should be able to plead the 5th and not give their name so they don't get taken to jail over warrants and such.

It's been a gripe?! So what? Griping by thugs is not and should never be the standard from which we set laws..

It is a question of liberty and presumption of guilt, something the Bill of Rights was created to address. Certainly, a dictatorship with firm central control would have less crime. That isn't what freedom in the American tradition is about.
Of course, fascists have other fascinations.

Well, in case you missed it, a lot of the country has decided that "thugs" are "good people" who should be "left alone." Along with a bunch of other stupid ideas.

Yeah, protection of the innocent at the risk of abuse by criminals is a stupid idea.
The Founders would definitely agree.
