A 6'5" tall actor in the late 30's who enlisted in the Army. He was injured and discharged and joined the Marines under the name of Hamilton and was selected for officers training while in boot camp and commissioned a 2nd Lt. Recruited for the OSS he participated in clandestine missions in Europe. In the movie "3 Days of the Condor" the character of the CIA chief played by John Houseman claims "we sailed the Adriatic with a movie star at the helm". That was Hayden. He resumed his acting career after the war with roles like "Jack D. Ripper in Dr. Strangelove". Some sources claim his loyalty to Yugoslavian communist partisans during the war caused him to join (CUSA) the Communist Party. After apparently seeing the error of his ways he went to the FBI and HUAC and named names. The ironic thing is that Hayden was criticized by the Hollywood elite for being an informer rather than being a communist. He died relatively young at 70 of prostate cancer in 1984.
