There are several jurisdictions involved (California, New York, Nevada, NYC, Los Angeles, etc), all of whom have similar "crimes" in their books of laws, hence different time constraints for filing a criminal complaint. Further, there may be tort claims available based on various criteria, and clever lawyers who can find reasons why the normal times for filing may not apply.

But ambiguities abound. It is unquestionable that some female aspirants may have voluntarily participated in sexual activities, in the hope of gaining Weinstein's favor professionally. So are they justified in characterizing their tacit invitations and Weinstein's understandable response into "sexual harassment"?

This whole thing is really out of hand. Torts withholding, women coming forward making claims decades after the fact is a bit much. Further, the fact that these accusations (many unfounded) create such an atmosphere, that everyone associated with the accused, creates as much space possible to avert being caught in the salacious net (employers, friends, even family).
People's lives are ruined based on a mere accusation. The times may have changed but the 'witch hunts' continue.

Yet removing statue of limitations becomes dangerous for the innocent when some clipped pos females uses rape, or sexual assault as a method to keep custody of the kids, or to pay back a guy she hates, or in the case of famous ppl " MONEY" and fame.

1 year is the normal statute for civil offenses like this in most U.S. states.
