Sawed off at the ankles and hauled away in a rental truck in the middle of the urban hell hole of Detroit.

Why doesn't the City of Detroit provide armed guards for this kind of property, instead of just exposing it to every thief in town?

Taxes in Detroit are certainly high enough that 2 armed guards posted 24 hours a day aren't something they can't afford.

The statue was obviously stolen for its scrap value.

If they used those tax dollars to hire armed security for valuable objects like that statue, then there would be less money for the 'elected' officials to embezzle.
