At least the times article below was honest in identifying the source of the contract as the Biden administration. But today there are at least a dozen headlines decrying favoritism based on news of this contract completely ignoring the fact that it's been canceled and completely ignoring the fact that it was set up during the Biden administration.

Not to be out done in the howler monkey section Rachel maddow even did a hit piece the other night screaming about government favoritism in relation to the cyber truck deal. I suppose one could excuse her had the news of the cancellation not been made public yet....
Unfortunately however that is not the case.

/---/ And the Lame Stream Media wonders why their viewship has fallen off a cliff.
BTW, I love the "howler monkey."

Something is fishy here. Either this is a competitive bid (IFB) or a request for proposals (RFP). The Feds are essentially prohibited from doing sole-source procurements unless the product (or service) is truly unique.

What were the specifications? Either the CT was the only one to meet them (which is very unlikely), or it wasn't.

Does this make any sense? To use EV's in a combat situation is absurd. Where are you going to charge it every day?

This article was published a little too early. The writer doesn't understand Federal procurement.

It would be irrelevant who initiated the deal, it is still a huge conflict of interest. Musk still has other major contracts with the government.

I dont think the purpose of these is to take them into the wild. I think they are for DoD employees in dangerous cities around the world.

That said, they are putting diesel generators on electric vehicles and getting CRAZY mileage on them. Brittain has this one that apparently can go 4,000+ kilometers.

/---/ Funny spin. Try harder.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said Musk would recuse himself from situations that posed a conflict, which in turn raised questions about whether such an arrangement itself created the appearance of a conflict.

The dual role currently held by Musk—with a net worth of $384 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index—breaks with decades of tradition that have seen senior business leaders resign their private-sector jobs to serve in government.

/----/ You mean the contract written in the Biden term?

Yes, and it became a conflict when Trump put Musk in place to over look governmental contracts like the article noted.

It's already been allocated BUT Musk has billions of other contracts. Do you suppose they all will get suspended?

It will be quietly reinstated.

Given the one I saw in my AO struggling with the hilly terrain I'd say it was a good cancellation.

Yeah they're pretty much junk. That's why Tesla has discontinued them. Though the people that own them, most of them anyway, Love them.

Hopefully it will not be reinstated. The Cyber truck has panned out to be a real piece of junk.

It would be smart for them to keep it permanently canceled.. Not just for the above reason but for public perception reasons also
It just looks bad..

There's no question that Musk has benefited immensely from government contracts especially at SpaceX.

That however is not an automatic conflict of interest.

His contract is miniscule compared to John Kerry and his wife who supply all the mustard and ketchup for every United States military base on the planet.

John Kerry is only one of thr many well known politicians that benefit from government contracts, in reality there are several hundred.

Most of them keep well under the scope to avoid scrutiny.

In Musk's case he was a beneficiary before he became a politician..... Not that it matters much.

Conflict of interest is almost always present in these things.

What has been the argument all through this? This is money already allocated by Congress and no one can just wave their arm and end it. Right?

And should be condemned and stopped in every case.

Don't think they were slated for combat. Typically the cyber truck is bullet resistant already but I wouldn't depend on that in an attack situation.
Most government vehicles that transport dignitaries of any type are beefed up to withstand at least an initial barrage of bullets.

And nothing will have changed. It's all for show. Any actions it takes will be overturned in the courts. Musk's conflicts of interest will play a role in that.
