A man who bludgeoned his ex-girlfriend's parents to death in an attempt to kidnap his ex-girlfriend and then commit a murder suicide will be executed by firing squad.

South Carolina Murderer Will Die by Firing Squad This Week

Rather than tie the Larkes up, he went to their home with a baseball bat. David asked his wife to get his gun, but before she could, Sigmon began beating him in the head. He then went into the other room and hit Gladys with the bat. He then went back and forth, beating each person until they were dead. When Becky arrived home, he forced her into her car, planning to take her to her North Carolina. She managed to escape, but he shot her several times with her father's gun before running out of bullets.

The usual people are suing to spare this sack of shit, claiming he only chose the firing squad because he thinks lethal injection would be botched.

Sigmon himself chose the firing squad because he was afraid the electric chair would "burn and cook him alive," according to his attorney, Gerald King. He also declined a lethal injection because previous men killed via this method in South Carolina likely suffered. Their autopsies found that their lungs were swollen and filled with "blood and fluid." One man's execution took 23 minutes.

"Sigmon was forced to make his election. Lacking the basic facts necessary to assess the risks reflected by these lethal injections gone wrong — much less to determine which of South Carolina’s methods is the more inhumane — he chose the firing squad," his attorneys said as part of a motion filed last week to delay the execution.

As usual more sympathy for the criminal than for his victims.

Maybe baseball bats should be a choice by the state.

All executions should be by firing squad. Electric chair, lethal injection and gas have all been botched and inflict needless suffering. Firing squads are cheap, fast and NEVER FAIL.

I think a firing squad imparts an underserved mantra of nobility.

Hanging. If it was good enough for the Nazis, it's good enough

The first two shots should be solo and the should shoot him in the nuts.

Then everywhere else.

Just my opinion but I think it's best to leave the vengeance aspect out of executions.
.

It's a difficult issue. I was always pro-capital punishment, and a year ago I became a Catholic and am now obligated to think differently about the taking of any life.

It's difficult.

The North Korean anti-aircraft gun method is the most efficient. No need for burial or cremation.

To me the long drop hanging method is the best. It's quick, the person is rendered instantly unconscious, and there is ZERO dignity in hanging.

The firing squad often implies a military bearing, The guillotine of defiance to political murder, beheading by sword or axe of resistance to power.

Hanging has none of those drawbacks.

I wonder if they still have the guy that administers a coup de grâce?

A shot to the noggin in modern executions.

I thought I read somewhere that only one of the shooters has live ammo, and no one knows who that is, so that no one has to live with the guilt.

If I were the recipient, I'd hope that they all had live ammo -- less chance of a f**k-up that would lead to my suffering unnecessarily.

Actually it's usually 1 out of the number has a blank. So each one can think they had it.

The notion of a blank cartridge is a fallacy in SC FS executions.

The agency spent $53,600 in state funding on renovations, including the installation of bullet-resistant glass between the death chamber and witnesses, as well as a metal chair into which the inmate will be strapped.

They also cut into the brick wall of the chamber to make an aperture through which the three shooters — all volunteer employees from the Corrections Department — will thread their weapons, all loaded with live ammunition.

After an opportunity to make a final statement, the inmate will be strapped into the chair and a hood placed over his head. An execution team member will place a “small aim point” over the inmate’s heart.

After the warden reads the execution order, officials said the team will fire.

The agency has not specified what caliber rifles the volunteer shooters will use, nor details of the “certain qualifications” they will be required to have met.

They should die by the same means that they killed with.

You got that wrong. One of them has a blank, so nobody knows who actually shot him and who didn't. Gosh can you imagine hearing 10 guns go off and the one guy that has the live bullet misses? Oh shit.
