The parent was right to take down the LGBTQ+ flag. All K-12 classes should be monitored to ensure that they teach ONLY the subject itself. If the teacher is pro-LGTBQ+, he/she/it needs to simply talk about it to those she associates with off school property and attend any protests (not involved with the school). As for any sex-ed classes in K-12, for the younger children, teach them about inappropriate touching and to report it to a parent and not "falsely" report such things, as that is also terrible. As for the older students, they need to learn about the basic biology of reproduction and how to prevent pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases. Any questions deemed outside of the norm and they can be referred to either their parents, or a school counselor (who should at least be a psychologist, not just a social worker).

Children are taught how NORMAL people behave, interact, carry themselves, speak, and I hesitate to say, THINK. Part of this indoctrination is carried out by peers when they "make fun of" aberrant behavior. Now that has been called out as the secular "sin" of "bullying," and is verboten.

But all of this serves a purpose. It promotes good citizenship, productive conflict resolution, meaningful communication, and a culturally correct viewpoint on life. In other cultures (e.g., Chinese, Islamic) these norms are different, as are life viewpoints.

When you take young kids and teach them that aberrant behavior is "normal," the consequences can be devastating. In some high schools in America, as many as a THIRD of H.S. girls identify as lesbian, trans, or "non-binary," which reflects nothing more than normal anxiety about society's expectations on inter-gender activities. Now they are branded with those adjectives (and pronouns), and NOBODY KNOWS how that will affect their future lives. All we know is that this sort of identity confusion is NEW and UNTRIED.

Who is pushing this, you ask? One organization is GLAAD, the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation. Part of the mission statement speaks to your insightful first paragraph about aberration. Their website states:

You never have to dig very far to find this info. For example, go to the GLAAD annual reports page. It has a laundry list of donors.

Answering "why" is also not difficult. The funders include household names; they are seeking good PR and tax write offs. Other funders are weirdos and freaks of nature.
