Small wonder the American people don't care if the .gov shuts down.

The news of the day is the looming government shutdown, but our question isn't necessarily how Americans are thinking about it — it's whether Americans are thinking about it at all......This was from 2023 from ABC.

Since that time the major polling groups have quit even asking the question in polls before a looming shut down because NOBODY CARES.

The time of congress playing fast and loose with our money has reached an end.....Shut it down or not, but quit wasting our money seems to be the message here.

That's what's done. Where you been the last four decades or so?

These CRs are always omnibus bills, as is the nature of actual budget bills. The only thing of note between the bipartisan bill and the new CR was the ability to spend the same amount of money, while reducing the page count from above 1,500 to less than 200.

I think the dems should hold their ground and shut down the government that way when trump takes office he can lay off all the non essential workers,,

that should give a good start to cut government waste,,

Somebody needs to show me where even one government employee lost just $1 due to a government shutdown. They all eventually get paid for what amounts to a paid vacation. If it needs a shutdown to control the outrageous spending then SHUT IT DOWN!
It really doesn't matter much over the holidays as most government agencies are short-staffed or shut down completely. The only people in my family working are my kids that are EMS. All the civilian companies are shut down and probably half the military is on leave.

Lop off 1300 pages and they still were able to stuff enough poison pills in it that 28 congressmen of reasonable principle torpedoed it.

We need to stop this omnibus business.

All it means is Congress isn't doing it's job.

The lazy bums need to actually vote on issues, not trade off one issue for another.

There was another big difference. The Musk Bill abolished the Debt Ceiling. Unlimited spending forever!!!!!

Thanks for mentioning it. No actual conservative could support that, especially not a fiscal conservative, a distinctly endangered species in our nation's capital, these days, though plenty left in the general population.;)

Feel free to show us where the debt ceiling ever prevented spending, Simp.

I'll ask you the same............show us where the debt ceiling ever prevented spending.

Since the rule was made the so-called "debt ceiling" has been violated 78 times.

Since 1960, Congress has raised, extended, or revised the debt limit 78 separate times, of which 49 were under Republican presidents and 29 were under Democratic presidents, according to the Department of Treasury.

Yes they did make an omnibus bill out of it which is what Trump, Musk, Ramaswamy et al objected to. And while the still ridiculous second bill written was still ridiculous, Trump endorsed it because it took off a worthless debt ceiling and eliminated these CR bills that gave Congress opportunity to cram billions and billions of additional pork into the legislation every so many months.

It always focused attention, (which is a good thing), when it came up. It is better than "the sky or stratosphere is the limit planning. It has long been problematic, starting with Ronald Reagen increasing it 17 times during his administration, more than doubling it, in his 8 year run. I see no reason to impliment "the sky is the limit" management of debt, without even discussing it.

The Pentagon says that troops may not be paid over Christmas. I would like to think that he discovered this during one of their failed audits the last 10 or so years, but I have my doubts.

He’s not as big an asshole as Boner and McCarthy nor as big of a traitorous shit like Ryan, so who can take chare that's any better? :dunno:

Fuck us.
