"Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"
Do you know the title of that poem?
Do you know what the Statue of Liberty represents for the Old World?
Do you know what Emma Lazarus meant by "the golden door" at the end?
You are buying into the fucked up interpretation of that poem. It has much less to do with immigration and much more to do with free-market capitalism.
Immigration is what helped our economy to grow, dumbass. Immigration is our lifeblood. And our economy will never grow robustly without immigration.
The words and the meaning are unequivocal. Except to retards.
You conveniently left out the important party of that passage:
“
Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!” cries she
With silent lips. “Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”
What is she talking about? Storied Pomp?
I will help you.
It means:
"Hey, Old World. Quit boasting about your greatness. Your masses live in poverty with no freedom or opportunity because you do not value equality. But, send those same people here, and watch how they live. They will do well (golden door)."
It does not mean:
"Hey everybody. Send us all your stupid people and criminals. Give us all your illiterate day laborers. We'll absorb that welfare burden and **** our own citizens over in the process. Keep up your communist/socialist/totalitarian bullshit. We'll help clean up your mess."
Immigration is completely unnecessary. It is not a lifeblood to anything. If we shut off ALL immigration and all work visas, it would actually improve our economy. More demand for a smaller supply of workers increases wages, which is the only way to "fairly" transfer wealth.
