The German people did not choose between "marxism & Nazi-ism". They were in an economic crisis created by reparations the Allies extracted in the Treaty of Versailles, which ended WWI. Inflation was 1000 percent, and the people were starving.

Hilter promised to "Make Germany Great Again" and end the abuse and starvation of the German people. He promised an end to reparations and prosperity for all real Germans, and he blamed the Jewish bankers for selling out the country. He talked about "Aryan Supremacy" and said the Aryan people should rule the world.

Yes, those crippling war reparations levelled against Germany by/through the allies Versailles treaty were/remain the most culturally/economic devastating reparations ever levelled against a modern nation. It was precisely this isolating of Germany financially where they could not even afford to financially interact between their own countrymen that led to the rise of both the KPD(formerly SPD/USPD) & the NSDAP. You are somewhat correct in the fact that the NSDAP never did hold a majority within the Reichstag, but enough of the German constituency DID VOTE in the 1932 federal election to make the NSDAP the LARGEST political party within Germany & helped land Hitler as the Chancellor position in January of 1933.

Though Hindenburg was still president in March 1933 Hitler convinced the Reichstag to pass the the "enabling act" & @ that point 'unofficially' Germany was a dictatorship. The German constituencies 1932 vote definitely favored the NSDAP OVER MARXISM & set Hitler up as the next Chancellor. A year later with president Hindenburg's death Adolf was Chancellor, President & Dictator = JUDGE, JURY & HANGMAN. People need to be careful for what they wish for, as they just might get it!!!
