SNAP still is besieged with fraud. Why would a woman brag about what she does?
Is this really for her children? Are you supporting Doge which attacks such fraud?

Check it out.

The worst fraud is in the outrageous allotments. No wonder poor kids are fat and unhealthy.

My bet -
The percentage of the population that smokes is about 11%

People not taking government money - 3% smoke.
People on SNAP and Welfare - 70% smoke.

Sure seems like it

I just do not understand the mentality that is comfortable living off other people's money for pretty much your entire life. People are so bold to justify it, saying things like I don't like to work, I don't have to work, and I deserve this.

I do not get it. At all.

This video is click bait. There are more white folks on SNAP than any other demographic, and yet, for some reason, this YouTuber only features clips of minority women? huh.

The fact is, the biggest beneficiary of SNAP are places like Walmart, who don't even pay their employees enough to NOT be on the program, all the while, benefiting from the economic results of the program.

If the government did not let places like Walmart receive these benefits unless/until the corporations paid their employees enough to live? meh.

On top of that, the amount of tax payer money being lost in an unaccountable financial black hole via the Pentagon and ACA dwarfs resources going to the program.

If folks are genuinely concerned about the cost of the SNAP program, why do they not put pressure on the entities that make this program so large and necessary?

Our research found that at least three powerful industry sectors benefit from SNAP:

1) major food manufacturers such as Coca-Cola, Kraft, and Mars;

2) leading food retailers such as Walmart and Kroger; and

3) large banks, such as J.P. Morgan Chase, which contract with states to help administer SNAP benefits.
Now the Los Angeles Times is asking the same questions. It points out that Walmart’s annual filing with the Security and Exchange Commission, which is required to list potential risks to profits, includes this mention among many others:

changes in the amount of payments made under the Supplement Nutrition Assistance Plan and other public assistance plans, (and) changes in the eligibility requirements of public assistance plans.

Translation: if Congress cuts SNAP and makes it harder for poor people to get benefits, Walmart loses money. Three reasons:
  • People on food assistance spend a lot of their benefits in Walmart.
  • Walmart employees qualify for food assistance benefits.
  • Its business model will lose its taxpayer-supported subsidies.

The simply reality is, corporate profits depend on this program to continue. It is yet another money laundering operation that keeps Americans poor, while enriching the corporate profiteers who use, abuse, and control the state through lobbyists.

This is also why the very justified complaints that SNAP enables poor folks to buy luxuries and very unhealthy food, is NOT the result of populist politics, but the result of big business interests and government legalized corruption.

Those products will NEVER be disallowed from the program, as it would bite into corporate profits.

One thing about Walmart's part in this......is that in many areas, it may be the only option to buy food without going to another area or city. If you're broke every drop of gas counts.

Feds pay JP Morgan for holding the EBT accounts so all monies (cash & SNAP) goes thru their bank. When on public assistance, you can't choose what bank to draw from.

Then most people nowadays don't know how to shop or cook or nutritional values so they get alot of the processed foods and junk stuff that in the long run is really more expensive.

The video in the OP.......she does criticize alot without really knowing what she's talking about........kinda like most people that have never had to be on public assistance, whether for a few months or a lifetime.

Someone that got 4 months of benefits at once, meant they had nothing in those months. Usually means the person had applied for assistance and it took that long to be approved and the program will pay for those back months. Could be numerous reasons for the delay,, so who knows the why. But that doesn't happen often and doesn't mean they will get numerous months benefits every time. It's just to get them caught up for months they were eligible. From now forward, she'll get whatever monthly amount she's eligible for.

Buying ramen and snacks and sodas really aren't that big of a deal unless that's all you buy. But the lady portrayed in the video (and most people) had 3 carts full of food including fruits, veggies, meats, etc. Yes, maybe alot of it wouldn't be what I or the YT'er or others would buy.....but again, alot of people don't know what 'good & healthy' food is and shouldn't be something to be judged over. Atleast it's food and she's not trying to exchange her SNAP for drugs.

The lady that only got $60 for herself and 6 kids for a month.......without knowing the circumstances of why that's all she got, she may have good reason to be mad.

When I had worked in a welfare office (clerical position, issuing benefits to clients but not determining eligibility), there was a lady with either 4 or 6 kids that had just lost everything she had either from a personal disaster or leaving an abusive relationship. She hadn't been on assistance previously. Didn't have an appointment because of sudden events and had to wait all day long to see a worker. She was there from 7:30am and didn't get seen until after 4:30 on a Friday. Worker finally showed up with the paperwork and left for the weekend, as did most employees and supervisors.

She got $10 for the whole month and she was pissed beyond words and started literally screaming at me. I didn't blame her a bit for it either. The worker had messed up somewhere and didn't check the paperwork before leaving. She had done everything right and was supposed to do, it wasn't her fault. But I couldn't do anything to help her and no supervisor available to check the work and amount. I did get her calmed down, but had to tell her to come back Monday morning. Which she did, and ended up with the correct amount.

Expecting people on SNAP to just live on rice & beans is crazy unless you're willing to do the same for a whole month. Few if any are so willing.

I don't disagree with any of this, but my point was to raise awareness of how BIG FOOD, and corporate America have wanted this state of affairs. It benefits them far more than it benefits the poor.

. . . and as long as both parts of society reap the benefits, the AG Bill will remain a money laundering and pork project.

Yes, and I wasn't disagreeing with you, but the YB'er that is voicing what most people think about the poor because there's alot more to it than most realize or even want to know.

Yes there is alot of fraud at all levels of the system and hopefully any doge cuts will address that. Kinda like when the feds first changed over from actual food stamp books to the EBT card, to stop the people from selling stamps for drugs, but that didn't address the higher up abuses. So similar, but different.

At ground level, it would help tremendously if people knew how to shop & cook and better budgeting. Alot and I do mean alot of people don't know how, so they buy alot of crap, just to fill bellies because they don't know otherwise. Either Mom never taught them, or didn't take Home Ec in school or whatever reasons. And to that I would say that in order to get assistance, go thru some kind of training class.

But all in all........people will be people, and try to find ways to stay in their comfort zone........both the poor and those who judge

SNAP is loaded with fraud. If democrats aren't interested in fixing it somebody has to.
