SNAP is a crucial support system helping millions through tough times with modest benefits and exceptional efficiency, says IGA CEO John Ross.

This video is click bait. There are more white folks on SNAP than any other demographic, and yet, for some reason, this YouTuber only features clips of minority women? huh.
Myths about SNAP can be one factor that affects a person's health outcomes.

The fact is, the biggest beneficiary of SNAP are places like Walmart, who don't even pay their employees enough to NOT be on the program, all the while, benefiting from the economic results of the program.
If the government did not let places like Walmart receive these benefits unless/until the corporations paid their employees enough to live? meh.

On top of that, the amount of tax payer money being lost in an unaccountable financial black hole via the Pentagon and ACA dwarfs resources going to the program.
If folks are genuinely concerned about the cost of the SNAP program, why do they not put pressure on the entities that make this program so large and necessary?
Sen. Bernie Sanders reacted to the GAO report’s findings in a scathing tweet accusing firms of paying "starvation wages."

Here’s are some things I’d really like to know: How much food assistance money gets spent at Walmart? How many Walmart “associates” get SNAP benefits? The USDA does not collect data on how SNAP recipients spend their benefits but I’ve been interested in these questions since reading Michele...

Walmart faces valuation concerns as SNAP cuts threaten $45B revenue loss by 2034. GLP-1 drugs reduce food spending while P/E hits 42x vs peers at 11-19x.

Now the Los Angeles Times is asking the same questions. It points out that Walmart’s annual filing with the Security and Exchange Commission, which is required to list potential risks to profits, includes this mention among many others:
Translation: if Congress cuts SNAP and makes it harder for poor people to get benefits, Walmart loses money. Three reasons:
- People on food assistance spend a lot of their benefits in Walmart.
- Walmart employees qualify for food assistance benefits.
- Its business model will lose its taxpayer-supported subsidies.
The simply reality is, corporate profits depend on this program to continue. It is yet another money laundering operation that keeps Americans poor, while enriching the corporate profiteers who use, abuse, and control the state through lobbyists.
One thing about Walmart's part in this......is that in many areas, it may be the only option to buy food without going to another area or city. If you're broke every drop of gas counts.
Feds pay JP Morgan for holding the EBT accounts so all monies (cash & SNAP) goes thru their bank. When on public assistance, you can't choose what bank to draw from.
Then most people nowadays don't know how to shop or cook or nutritional values so they get alot of the processed foods and junk stuff that in the long run is really more expensive.
The video in the OP.......she does criticize alot without really knowing what she's talking about........kinda like most people that have never had to be on public assistance, whether for a few months or a lifetime.
Someone that got 4 months of benefits at once, meant they had nothing in those months. Usually means the person had applied for assistance and it took that long to be approved and the program will pay for those back months. Could be numerous reasons for the delay,, so who knows the why. But that doesn't happen often and doesn't mean they will get numerous months benefits every time. It's just to get them caught up for months they were eligible. From now forward, she'll get whatever monthly amount she's eligible for.
Buying ramen and snacks and sodas really aren't that big of a deal unless that's all you buy. But the lady portrayed in the video (and most people) had 3 carts full of food including fruits, veggies, meats, etc. Yes, maybe alot of it wouldn't be what I or the YT'er or others would buy.....but again, alot of people don't know what 'good & healthy' food is and shouldn't be something to be judged over. Atleast it's food and she's not trying to exchange her SNAP for drugs.
The lady that only got $60 for herself and 6 kids for a month.......without knowing the circumstances of why that's all she got, she may have good reason to be mad.
When I had worked in a welfare office (clerical position, issuing benefits to clients but not determining eligibility), there was a lady with either 4 or 6 kids that had just lost everything she had either from a personal disaster or leaving an abusive relationship. She hadn't been on assistance previously. Didn't have an appointment because of sudden events and had to wait all day long to see a worker. She was there from 7:30am and didn't get seen until after 4:30 on a Friday. Worker finally showed up with the paperwork and left for the weekend, as did most employees and supervisors.
She got $10 for the whole month and she was pissed beyond words and started literally screaming at me. I didn't blame her a bit for it either. The worker had messed up somewhere and didn't check the paperwork before leaving. She had done everything right and was supposed to do, it wasn't her fault. But I couldn't do anything to help her and no supervisor available to check the work and amount. I did get her calmed down, but had to tell her to come back Monday morning. Which she did, and ended up with the correct amount.
Expecting people on SNAP to just live on rice & beans is crazy unless you're willing to do the same for a whole month. Few if any are so willing.
