I hated reading books, but as a small business owner keeping up with the latest business trends is important. What to do? A few years ago, I set a small goal to read a minimum of 5 pages a day, at first it was difficult, but manageable, and as the weeks and months went by it slowly became easier. Today I read 10-20 pages a day or about a dozen books a year with little effort.

I wanted to become a good chess player, but my talent level was (at best) on the low side of average. What to do? I set a small goal to study chess at least 30 min. per day. 3 years later I study between 45 - 60 min. per day and have gone from the beginner level (about 900 Elo) to a solid intermediate level (1760 Elo) and have defeated 2 USCF experts along the way.

You don't need lofty goals, great expectations, or elaborate, multi-faceted plans to achieve things. Small goals and small victories (done consistently) will get you there.

If you want your dream to be,
take your time, go slowly.
Do few things, but do them well
Simple pleasures are holy.

I find it is easier to read when on the can......

As for chess, I didn't study it. I played it like mad against a bunch of different people with different styles to get good at it. Downside is it bores me now. At my young in life work where we didn't go out in crap weather, we had a chessboard and it was always king of the hill rules so the more you won the more you got challenged. There were days I probably played at least a dozen games a day.
