Why am I not surprised?

I'm surprised we have not seen more disasters from the Chinese-owned Smithfield meat packing plants. The one I drive past frequently, in Sioux Falls, is smelling distance of the Hispanic and sub-Saharan African ghettos, so it's a likely assumption that's where they get most of their workers from.

I lived in that neighborhood 50+ years ago, back when it was the Morrell plant, and even though the stockyards were adjacent to the plant, there was never a smell like what I smell when I drive through there these days.

Smithfield gets popped regularly for this kind of stuff.

Usually it’s with illegal aliens.

When the Covid crisis hit, the FDA mandated PPE’s that included masking and gloving when handling food in the plants.

But even this basic set of precautions was too much for the meatpacking industry, which lobbied expensively until Wilbur Ross lowered the requirements to laughable levels. Of course, it did not take long before many towns that had meat packing plants became rural Covid hot spots.
