I have German and Scotts-Irish heritage.

If you have Scots-Irish heritage should you visit Ireland or Scotland?

I have ancestors that came from Ireland, Irish Catholic, but a hundred years
before they were in Ireland they were in Scotland.

Since they came from Ireland I was thinking Ireland. They didn't come from
northern Ireland, but southern Ireland. Since oh a hundred years before that
Some of the family came from Scotland before they moved to Ireland I was
Thinking Scotland.

Sometimes I wonder if the Scots-Irish heritage is why I seem to have anger issues I have struggled with most my life
🤣

Thoughts?

My ancestry is Irish. If I make it out of the country again, I would like to visit Ireland.

Ever see two Italians go after it? Germans? Anger issues aren't unique to Scots or Irish or by extension Scandinavians.

I have Scotch/Irish heritage. And it's really what, maybe 4 hours between Belfast and Edinborough? I would definitely plan to visit both. :)

I completely in love with Ireland.

You would be hard pressed to make it in 4 hours, but as the crow flies it is only 143 miles. BTW, you got the phonetic spelling correct but the proper spelling is Edinburgh---just sayin'

Ah yes. My bad. But I haven't been there so just guessed at the driving time. My kinfolk and friends who have been there say it's something like 8 hours from Dublin to Edinburgh by train.

I like the way they talk, um hum.

If I visited there, I would not say that "I'm scots-Irish" even though I can actually trace a very prolific ancestor to there. Especially since my name is very Welsh to anyone who knows Welsh last names.

It probably sounds dumb for Americans to go to Ireland or any other place and claim to be that.

First thing I learned was DON'T SAY 'top o' the marnin' but they do claim there are 'farty shades of green.' LOL

What is funny most of my life I was thinking I did not have Irish heritage. I didn't think I had Scottish heritage either. People would ask me if I I had any Irish ancestory and I would tell them no Irish.

It wasn't until I started tracing my ancestors and found records showing they came from Ireland and did a DNA test I found out I had Scots-Irish ancestry and DNA.

Now I am thinking of visiting scotland or Ireland if can afford one day.

Really? I just looked as I didn't know, but there is lots of information about train tickets on the internet.
From the Giants Causeway park and I am sure other places in N. Ireland you can see Scotland across the North Channel of the Irish Sea, but AFAIK, there is no tunnel so there would be a ferry involved or of course you could fly from Dublin.

Great country to visit.
Reminds me of a joke or maybe a real story, I don't know. An Irishman visiting the USA struck up a conversation with his Texas seatmate on the bus traveling through west Texas. Now if you've never been to West Texas, it is big, very flat, pretty featureless, and most of the time pretty brown except where crops are growing. Certainly not the prettiest scenery to be found.

The Texan teased the Irishman: "You know that your entire country of Ireland would fit into just this part of Texas."

The Irishman looked out the window and nodded solemnly and in his Irish accent as only the Irish have such an accent said, "Yes it would. And wouldn't it do wonders for it." :)

Go to both, but do it soon because they are being over run with Muslims.

The only problem I had with the Scots is that you can BARELY understand them. If you happen to run into Scot women on Holiday they will change your world view : )

I grew up in the El Paso/Las Cruces/Deming area. I am very familiar with that part of the US and I am very fond of it.
