In fact, the government took damn near as much away from my savings as it gave me during the two and a half years of unemployment because I had to pay penalties on using my retirement savings just to stay alive.

Also, Romney was not talking so much about people who received government benefits but rather those who took and... here is the kicker... who refused to do anything to better themselves and expected the goverment (aka Democrats) to supply it for them... those who would not get off their asses and at least try to find work.

The states in hues of red get back more than they pay in. They are almost all states that voted for Romney with the notable exceptions of New Mexico and Vermont.
That is bore out here in this from what appears to be a left-leaning site...

But to the point that if most red states--states that voted for Governor Romney--get more federal spending (what you guys on the right call "freebies"), it would stand to reason that the 47% club is one that has many Romney voters. Also keep in mind though that Federal Spending can mean anything from National Parks and Monuments to military bases to superfund clean-up sites etc...

I'll be happy to look at contrary evidence. The election is over so it doesn't really matter but it's a fun parlor game.

The facts are these: The nation can not survive without the investment income and capital from the Blue states any more than the nation can survive without the resources from the Red States. Any split up of the USA ends with dictatorships in the Red states when they collapse financially and irrelevance for the Blue States on the global stage.

As it happens, urban areas do tend to vote Democrat more than rural areas, and large cities, by their nature, tend to bring in more income.

The counties in the eastern half of my state are largely desert-like plains and hills, and some greener plains, and most of the land is farming/grazing land. The counties in the western half get most of the rainfall and have the largest population, and include the city of Seattle, and tend to vote Democrat. Whereas the eastern counties tend to vote Republican. In the '08 election, the county containing Seattle and most nearby had a majority of votes for, e.g. Obama, and most of the eastern counties had a majority for McCain.

Now you all know where I live . But anyway, the pattern is there.
