It might be true for all I know. But my preference for freedom over socialism has nothing to do with economic performance, so it's sort of a moot point.

Recently there was a speaker (self-proclaimed socialist) going on about how America should strive to be more like Germany. He said their economy is fantastic, and socialism is why.
Is this true?

how can it be primarily socialist when it has Mercedes BMW VW Audi Rolls Royce all competiting for world wide market share with dozens of international competitors????

If it were primarily socialist the government would own one consolidated company that in theory could avoid the waste of capitalism: duplicate factories, advertising, marketing, sales, frivolous features, design time and public infrastructure.

If you can find a country that has a higher standard of living than ours and pays lower taxes, you shoud move there.

we do well here in spite of the recent liberal enhancements, but the more liberal enhancements the more we begin to resemble Europe where for example beloved France has the per capita income of Arkansas, one of our poorest states.

If you thought the States was doing badly, you'd say "We're doing badly because of the recent liberal enhancements", but instead you have to say "We do well here in spite of the recent liberal enhancements".

liberalism is anti-business, high tax, pro-union, pro regulation and pro intervention so nothing in their program can help the economy. Now you understand why China switched to Republican capitalism from liberalism to get rich and save 10's of millions from starving to death.

Those are just talking points, I don't see any proof that the USA survives "in spite of recent liberal enhancements" instead of "because of recent liberal enhancements".
