They started the war and Israel met the challenge. So the honest question is, what did Hamas gain?

The liberal and Arab Jew hater will say Hamas won a PR gain, because many civilians were killed. However, that is a fatal argument on two points:
(1) The world lives in the 24/7 news-cycle. Once this one dies down the next tragic event will take it's place and everyone will have forgotten. Take Boko Haram. They kidnapped 300 school girls. The first lady did one of those signs the world was outraged, outraged I tell you. The girls were never found, yet this story was forgotten in a week. Give it 2 weeks and the news cycle will move on. Give it 1 month and it will be forgotten. So sorry but no PR victory.

(2) Most honest non-Jew hating people easily see that the reason for the civilian deaths was Hamas strategy of firing rockets from apartment buildings, schools, mosques and hospitals. Their use of human shields was horrendous and most honest people recognize that.

Regardless, if you want to give them a so-call "PR victory" was the price worth it?
(1) Israel utilized the HIGHLY effective Russia invasion of Georgia strategy. The same one they half-heartedly utilized in Lebanon a few years back. Invade the country, declare the entire country an enemy, hit it hard and swiftly, reduce it to rubles and then leave and make them clean up the mess.
(2) Gaza is now in rubles because of this Hamas provoked war. It will take time, money and resources to repair the area. The economy will suffer from it for years.
(3) The very expensive and time consuming tunnel network has been completely destroyed. They spend years to make it and it was destroyed in weeks. Imagine taking 10 years to paint a million dollar masterpiece for a someone to destroy it upon completion. That would hit the moral no?
(4) Much of the expensive weapons they stored have been destroyed. These guys don't have money trees. This loss will be devastating to their military
(5) Proved the iron domes effectiveness. So many missiles and so few made it through. 1 person killed and very few injured and little property damage destroyed.
(6) Huge loss of Palestinian life.
(7) Gazans are now openly questioning Hamas, why they provoked this war they killed so many of it's people and destroy their territory.
(8) The Arab world for the first time abandoned the Palestinians. Many openly blamed Hamas for the unnecessary war and use of human shields. Many every de facto supported Israel.
(9) It showed the fear Hezbollah has for Israel. I know the Arab myth behind the 2nd Lebanon War was that Israel lost, but Lebanon has lived in fear of another Israel attack every since, their cowardly leader is still in hiding and their economy hasn't bounced back even half way yet.

A short-term so called "PR Victor" wasn't worth it, but then again I am a, Evul Zionist!

It was a Battle, the War is not over

Israel is winning the war:
(1) Arab States are stating to De Facto accept Israel.
(2) Palestinians ability to harm Israelis or their property is greatly diminished.
(3) The Israeli economy is still one of the best in the world and it's only getting better.
(4) The Israeli economy is set to boom once the oil discovers can be brought out of the ground and sold to Europe.
(5) The Palestinians are starting to become war and terror wary. They are seeing it hasn't gotten them anywhere.

Why would Europe buy Israeli gas from the occupied territory's?
Three letters, BDS capiche?

You have the question turned around: What did Israel gain by this war?

"If the road you followed brought you to this, then what use was the road?"

I can answer that:
(1) Destruction of the tunnels. Those large expensive and time consuming tunnel terror network is gone.
(2) Tested and Proved the Iron Dome is successful. In was highly successful in stopping the vast majority of the rocket attacks. Prior to this the rocket attacks didn't kill many people, because Israel has great alert systems and a top notch shelter network. However, it did cause extensive damage to property. With the 10s to thousands of rockets fired few hit anything.
(3) First time in History there was Arab Support for ISRAEL. Some even stated it in public.
(4) Gazaians are openly questioning Hamas and why they started this war. Yest they blame Israel for the deaths, but they are sour on Hamas for provoking this ass-kicking.
(5) Proved what everyone who isn't an antisemite knew about the Lebanon War, Hezbollah is deathly afraid of another war with Israel. All you heard from the Arabs is Hezbollah won, yet they remained silent on the Northern border since the war and even in this current conflict.
(6) Gaza was hit hard and wide. It is going to be a long time before they recover. They will think twice about provoking an attack by Israel.
(7) Much of Hamas's missiles and arms have been used and/or destroyed. Yet very little damage was done to Israel. These arms cost money and they will have to replenish these weapons.

You are going to say they lost the PR war. Wait two weeks after the fighting and see the headlines. Few will be in Israel if any. One month this will be a distant thought! The 24/7 news cycle will be in something else so will the public!

I don't think I can teach you inelastic pricing economics in one post, so I won't try.

Hamas have yet to win even one battle, so the war is still waging and hamas is getting the kicking of its life. Will there be a next time or will the people speak out loudly about hamas killing women and children.

ONE WORD costs. If Israel can produce the gas cheaper than Russia then the EU will buy from them.

Every time Hamas and the killer muslims get Germans to show their anti-Semitism...they win as the Germans pose the greatest threat to Israel and the Jewish people.

The antisemitic Iran can't even prevent trade ties with Israel, but you expect Europe to!

Israel-Iran trade ties thriving - Israel Business, Ynetnews
Despite what is seen on the ground, the secret relations with Iran total tens of millions of dollars a year," says Yehoshua Meiri, chairman of the Israeli-Arab Friendship Association, which encourages the development of economic relations as an alternative to a peace process.

"Even when harsh statements are made on both sides, business thrives," says Hemeiri. "Relations with the Iranian colleagues are excellent, and political statements are ignored.

"It's safe to say that the commerce could be extended. The past year has even seen relations which include consultation services on engineering and construction of food factories."
