Way back when, sailors were afraid their ships would fall off the earth because it was flat.
People dying of the plague had themselves bled with leeches and had no clue it was coming from fleas on rats.
Back in the old days, windows could not be opened at night due to ailments carried by the wind.
Bathing was a no no too, due to causing ailments from the water, so they doused themselves in perfumes to hide their body stench.
Ignorance abounded and still is.
