One of the unfortunate, missed opportunities in our recent history was the failure to vote for trump's conviction in the second impeachment. A failure having its roots in just the kind of thing Murkowski spoke about. But I would argue the senators who shirked their responsibility to their oath of office did so out of fear of The Following, not trump. They had the chance to prevent the Felon-in-Chief from becoming the Felon-in-Chief with a vote to convict but they were afraid of being voted out of office by trump's blindly devoted base.

One hopes the courage she has shown and promises to show again will be contagious. But I have seen little evidence of it so far.
