"Senate Appropriations Committee Chair Patty Murray (D-WA) and Vice-Chair Susan Collins (R-ME) pivoted instead to drafting a bipartisan CR that would likely pass the Senate before being sent to the House for a vote. However, it is unclear whether House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) would be willing to bring the CR to the floor as it currently stands."

So, why does Speaker McCarthy need the Freedom Caucus so bad?

He's the Speaker for the House, not just the Republicans. If he and the other GOP big spenders want to continue Pelosi's borrowing spree so bad why not ask for bipartisan support of the Bipartisan Keep Spending Like Pelosi Bill or whatever they're calling it?

If he bring it to the floor one of your beloved FCs will trigger the recall vote, stopping all business till that is over.

That should be pretty quick, given all the support McCarthy will get from his fellow Borrow and Spenders on the other side of the isle.

Which won't take long to crash and burn, given McCarthy's strong support among Democrats.

How could the FC have all that power? It's less than 50 Congress folk. With the unanimous support of Democrats, his Speakership and the CR should have no problem getting through.

Or . . . is there a flaw in that you could articulate?

He does not have unanimous support of Democrats, I am not sure why you think he does or if you are just making it up since you have nothing else.

As I've said elsewhere all Democrats need to do is toss in some more corporate welfare spending and tax cuts for billioniares and it is a done deal; that is all they're fishing for, bribes and pork, same as always. Ron Paul was a master of it when he was in Congress, one of the top 4 porksters of his day. Newt Gingrich was another major pig at the through.

His desire to continue the Pelosi era spending surely has full support of Democrats. Maybe Joe Manchin might oppose it, but who else?

As so often, you are carefully dodging the point.

Why does he not simply ask Democrats to vote with him for the CR that is exactly that, a continuation of the out of control borrowing and spending of the past two years?

Here's how it's gonna be:

1. The Government will shutdown.
2. Republican Congress people will put pressure on McCarthy to pass a spending bill.
3. No such bill will be acceptable both to the majority of the Republicans and the Republican KAOS Caucus
4. McCarthy will have to negotiate & Compromise with Democrats to get enough votes to pass any spending bill.
5. The KAOS Caucus will call for McCarthy's removal as Speaker. A vote for speaker will be held.
6. McCarthy will have to make more concessions to the Democrats to get them to vote for him as speaker.
7. McCarthy will win the vote for Speaker and get the negotiated Spending Bill passed. It will be very much like the bill that the Senate passed.
8. The Government will reopen.
9. The KAOS Caucus will be permanently marginalized.
10. The MAGA crowd will try to primary McCarthy, but will fail.

Not a bad analysis, but a couple of points:

6) Democrats will pile on demands to vote for him, grabbing for goodies like rioter/looters. He would have to give away the store in such a humiliating way for him and Republicans that they will go all out to make sure that

10) ends in defeat for McCarthy.

You may be right about #10, but the democrats will only go as far as what the Senate bill already has in it.

They're gonna be under pressure to reopen the Government as well.
