Secret Service Hunts Down Sarcastic Tweets .we are no longer free people

Then YOU are an ENEMY of Liberty. ***** OFF*:eusa_hand:

Look up "freedom" and "liberty" please because you sound like the jackass you are.
I know what they mean...My family has been in this since the inception of this Republic...and *I* defend it.

YOU are a ******* **** Starkey. You are clueless...YOU are a cheerleader for TYRANNY...and the left on these boards applaud YOU for it.

***** OFF*

Your ignorance, hate, and stupidity have clearly made you insane and delusional.

How does this make us "no longer free"?

It is troubling if the government is monitoring our online chatter. Very troubling.

Totalitarians have this nasty habit of finding what they are looking for, even if it isn't really there.

How productive is devoting the massive amount of manpower and treasure to this kind of effort? Resources that could be better spent perhaps. Resources that become a means unto themselves.

Did the Tsarnaev brothers brag on an internet forum they were going to blow up the Boston marathon?

"Troubling"? Sure.

Surprising? Not so much.

Why wouldn't the government do this? They're not breaking any laws, or violating privacy - tweets are by definition a way to quickly put your opinions into the public sphere. If you don't want the government reading your tweets, don't ******* tweet. It's as simple as that.

Lol, how far you have fallen. It's amazing that all your fears of what Bush might do came true under Obama.

One more time.... Look how far you have fallen...

"And yes, the thought of President Obama using the Secret Service to hunt down rude, inconsiderate conservatard Internet trolls does indeed make me happy."

Grats, you just defended that! 8 years ago who knew people like you would be the norm in the Democrat party?

Public communication, kiddos, is not private.

The gubmint can do hit.

First of all the Government is not limited to reading and monitoring our privet conversations.

Secondly, to go after someone about anything they said but have not done is about 1 inch from thought crime.

Grats Jake, you're a still a useless fuckin idiot! =D

Seconded.

Enemies to Liberty. Go figure. Clayton applauds tyranny.

You would think he would attack the person that said these things (in our quotes, not the OP) but instead he will continue to defend them.

There is no reason they need to spend tax payer money on stuff like this. If they want to improve public relations, they should consider telling the truth about things and that would really open up the lines of communication between government and the people.

Indeed. Instead the Government attempts to muzzle communications. Their way or else.

He never will. He'll ride that O train to the bottom.

How does this make us "no longer free"?

What right does the govt have investigating free speech?

They have the same "right" to look at twitter as anyone else does.

That is not the point at all.

For one, the government does not have any 'rights.' People have rights, the government has responsibilities. Secondly, what they are able to do has little to no connection with what they should be doing. There really is 2 options here: either they are watching the information in order to take action on it or not. If they are not taking action then what is the damn point? It becomes nothing more than a wast of taxpayer dollars to monitor something that they are not taking action on.

The more likely scenario is that they ARE going to take action on the information that they are collecting. If you do not see how that threatens free speech then I really don't think that you understand the concept at all.

What kind of action, exactly, are you so afraid of?

Aside from the fact that every argument I seen in this thread is a slippery slope fallacy, my root feelings on this are pretty simple. People use twitter without realizing what it is - and that's their damn fault. When you broadcast your 140 characters of "wisdom" to the entire world, it's simple common sense that people can read it - even "the government".

If I wrote "**** the Police" on the back of my car, I'd expect a lot of parking tickets - and it'd be my fault. This to me is no different. There's a reason why I don't use facebook, twitter or any of those other moronic social media things.
