So does the government. That doesn't mean they're playing honestly.The Fed has a vested interest in the success of the US economy.
The Fed may not take tax dollars directly, but it extracts wealth through monetary policy, inflation, and interest rate shifts, often benefiting financial institutions first while everyday people absorb the costs later. Its supposed independence from politics doesn’t make it neutral; it just means decisions are made behind closed doors, without voters holding them accountable. When a single institution can create money, set borrowing costs, and effectively decide who gains or loses in the economy, its “vested interest” is not automatically aligned with the public’s best interest. Saying they can’t afford to play politics ignores the reality. Their choices already are political, just disguised as economic policy.
