Its cheaper for the insurer to ship her home rather than continue to pay the US rates. Its a chilling message for UK tourists.

Axa is not coming out of this covered in glory.
The message from the story is, check your travel insurance on your cover. Such instances like this story highlights what to ask about before setting off. When in another country, it's their rules. AXA is putting money before a life.

I didn't see from the article if this was hit and run. If driver stopped and had insurance his insurance company should be on the hookl

Oh well, She won. It isn't like her doctors would sue her in Scotland anyway.

I supposed they must have believed American Democrats who said that Obamacare would make sure that "everyone" is insured.

I'm not so big on Brits coming to the U.S. as tourists. The chicks are definitely not hot, other than Natalie Dormer, and what are the odds that she'll meet one of my sons on a visit. The men talk funny, their noses are runny and they don't have much money.

Best concentrate on your fairy tale monarchy to attract tourists, while it can. The "Regent" is talking about reducing funding of the monarchy. A big mistake in my opinion. It misunderstands why foreign tourists come to see Buchingham Palace and other atrocities of the leisure class in the UK.

In America, the closest we could come to that would be a reality show focused on trailer park dwellers who win a huge lottery prize. But it would only last 3 - 5 years, the average time between such people winning millions and them declaring bankruptcy. Somone would have to do a show in which the inbred hillibilly rubes win millions every year for perpetuity to approximate the role of the modern Royal family.

Her daughter went public and shamed them into backing down.
She had like a gazillion of cover but axa didnt want to pay it.

So what you're saying is, Brits aren't fat bastards like you guys.

The Monarchy brings millions and billions into the UK, your head of state, well, he was a senile geriatric falling off his bike sniffing and fondling kids and shitting his pants that made the world laugh.

Just allow your kids to run in the corridors, then not as many will get shot.

Is your point that a private insurance company is always inherently evil? 3-6 months in the ICU before she returns home is going to eat well into that $15M in coverage, but I wish her the best.

Ive never really thought about insurance companies in that respect. But yes I suppose so.
They sell peace of mind but the scary bits are hidden in small print. Stories like this will not help them sell policies.

She had a lot of coverage for someone who could have been on the NHS in Scotland. I assume the family has some money anyway.

I think its pretty standard for people travelling abroad. Every time we go overseas we rely on the local system. It may be expensive.
Ive bought loads of policies over the years and only used one. You expect NHS levels of care at no cost.

We generally don't bother. We would just submit to our US insurance company for reimbursement if need be and they would just likely apply it to our per person deductible and we would have to pay it our of pocket anyway.

Yup. My wife paid it and claimed it back when we got home,
She was shocked she had to pay for the ambulance. Told me i could have gone in a taxi if she had known.

Those can be right expensive in the US. I think they are in the $800-1200 range in our area for short hauls. Last person I know who had to go by helicopter said it was $15K

My ambulance cost 80 euros. ******* robbing Spanish bastards. A taxi would have cost less than 10.

Health insurance companies are total ******* assholes. They don't give a damn about anything other than your money. It's a system that simply doesn't benefit most people, except the super rich
