I think her kidnappers knew who she was and due the celebrity of her daughter believed that a large ransom would be paid for her.
I believe they likely killed her and buried her soon after the news got out due to the media coverage.
I believe they abandoned any ransom plan believing that they would certainly be caught if they went ahead with it.

I agree with all of the above except that I think she died during the kidnapping due to her weak heart. In short, I don't think killing her was part of the plan.
