The Cardinals made no big moves to improve their team after last year saw them not make the playoffs.

Add to the fact that the Dodgers have every All Star player in baseball because they have more money than God, in addition to the bone crushing inflationary economy, and what you wind up with is a sport that is dying.

That is the way I see it.

Lifetime Cards fan here....yes, protesting the dismal seasons under Marmol with the idiot GM Mozeliak. Thankfully the GM retires after this season, but the owners have decided winning isn't important now just competing for one of the many wildcard spots.

What team can compete with the Dodger or Yankee payrolls? When did MLB become an arms race?

AI picked the next to two teams in the World Series, and you guess it, AI picked a rematch with the Dodgers and Yankees.

The excitement to see those two bastard teams dominate baseball for one more season is more than I can take.

I looked at the linked Yahoo article that Votto provided and seeing the picture it certainly appears the weather was nice enough if the photo was indeed taken opening day. But then I had a real laugh upon reading its caption....

Exactly. I just ask for a decent manager and a GM who can accidentally stumble on some talent once in a while....we have neither.
If I were in St. Louis, though, I would go to a couple of games....many good seats are available.

From my vantage point, the baseball union helped create this mess as large market teams can now spend as much as they want because players can now make as much as they want. Translated, this means if you are good enough you can be a Dodger or a Yankee.

At least the NFL has a system where all teams have limits on spending. But with the Yankees spending more on their bullpen than the entire Rays teams spends on their team, the system it just asinine.

Yeah, our owners shifted their investments across the street to Boozepark Village (they call it Ballpark Village) with bars and shops for more drunken crime downtown.

The movie "Moneyball" is a movie on this very subject of small markets being unable to compete with larger market teams, yet MLB does nothing about it.

Some in the baseball media are predicting a lockout by the owners after the 2026 season when the current union contract expires 12/1/2026. I hope it is addressed then. Perhaps I should be hoping for a 2027 season.

But they always cave to the baseball union.

ALL baseball fans of ALL cities should boycott MLB same with the NFL.

Cards first game was rain delayed by over 90 minutes. That might have had something to do with it; however, paid attendance exceeded the stadium capacity.

I caught a clip where James Wood hit that 445 HR at PNC. The entire 3rd base-LF line was a sea of blue--even behind the dugout.

I think PNC is often better than Oracle in architectural beauty, but the Pirate owners even squander that.:rolleyes:

I have a sinking feeling we will have a 1-2 year break from baseball when the next agreement comes up.

The owners will want a salary cap, well at least the non NY/LA ones.

There's almost more ushers and staff than fans.
