….where “upstairs” refers to Canada…and MAiD refers to Canadian socialized medicine.

1. “… the Canadian health care system is substituting Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD) for treatment in cases where the government decides to abandon the treatment of complex health care problems. Are you a soldier with PTSD? Have you considered death as a treatment?.... medically assisted suicide as a treatment for mental illness, PTSD and even children with defects in Canada.” Socialized Medicine For the Win

2. In Canada, it is incredibly difficult to get treatment for health conditions that are not common, and even common conditions, such as needing a hip replacement, can result in long wait times while experiencing excruciating pain….Socialized medicine in Canada has created a situation where getting approved for MAiD is much easier than getting treatment for many health conditions.” Ibid.

3. “Jolene Van Alstine, from Saskatchewan, suffers from a rare form of parathyroid disease, which results in extreme bone pain, nausea and vomiting. She requires surgery to remove a remaining parathyroid, but no surgeons in Saskatchewan are able to perform the operation. In order to be referred to another province for the operation, Van Alstine must first be seen by an endocrinologist, yet no Saskatchewan endocrinologists are currently accepting new patients. Van Alstine commented that the pain has become so unbearable that she has applied and been approved for Canada’s euthanasia and assisted suicide programme, with the ending of her life scheduled to take place on 7 January 2026.” Canadian Woman Approved for Assisted Suicide Instead of Getting Surgery - LifeNews.com

4 “The woman in that lovely commercial celebrating suicide was not dying; she was just denied care in Canada. …the Canadian health care system is substituting Medical Assistance in Dying for treatment in cases where the government decides to abandon the treatment of complex health care problems. Are you a soldier with PTSD? Have you considered death as a treatment? Are you a Paralympian who has won medals for your country but needs access to a stair climber in your house? Death. How about depression or poverty? Death.
Great Britain looks across the pond and sees a model in Canada's health care system. Labour is pushing hard to institute MAiD to help lower costs in their creaky health care system.” Socialized Medicine For the Win

5. Leftists consider this sort of thing simply consistent with their view of human life. Take a look at how the Soviet Communists valued the lives of their citizens:
a. "We must rid ourselves once and for all of the Quaker-Papist babble about the sanctity of human life." Leon Trotsky

b. "As one of his friends later recalled, "Vladimir Ilych Ulyanov (Lenin) had the courage to come out and say openly that famine would have numerous positive results...Famine, he explained....would bring about the next stage more rapidly, and usher in socialism, the stage that necessarily followed capitalism. Famine would also destroy faith, not only in the tsar, but in God, too." The Black Book of Communism, p.123-124.

More reason why governments needs to get out of health care as they distort it and increase beurocratic inefficiency.
