But leftists don't?Rightwingers, anti Constitution to the bone
More precisely, conservatives have contempt for, or are ignorant of, Constitutional case law.
Conservatives will often exhibit this ignorance or contempt with inane questions such as where in the Constitution is the word privacy, or where in the Constitution does it say separation of church and State.
When one directs them to the case law establishing those principles, they either ignore the case law or reject the settled, accepted doctrines of judicial review and the Supreme Courts authority to interpret the Constitution, that indeed the Court determines what the Constitution means, as the Constitution exists only in the context of its case law.
And this ignorance of, or contempt for, Constitutional case law is compounded by conservative hypocrisy with regard to the very doctrines they deride: one knows of no conservative who takes issue with Heller/McDonald, never has a conservative challenged the Heller Court to cite where in the Constitution it says self defense or individual right to own a handgun.
Moreover, in McDonald, incorporating the Second Amendment to the states and local jurisdictions per the 14th Amendment, where is the outrage from conservatives that states rights are being violated, or local communities disallowed to determine policy best suited for those jurisdictions?
Conservatives reject the 14th Amendment with regard to its requirement all citizens have access to their 4th Amendment right to privacy or 5th Amendment right to due process, yet embrace that very same Amendment with regard to the right to own a firearm.
Conservatives need to learn the Constitution is not a cafeteria plan, they dont get to pick the rights they approve of and reject those that conflict with rightist dogma.
Seen much leftist support for the Second Amendment lately?
Yeah, me neither.
