This is my final OFM column. Hereās what Iāve learned about buffets, āclean eatingā and what not to serve food on | Jay Rayner
Much has changed in the food world but there are a few truths that still hold
Individual foods are not pharmaceuticals; just eat a balanced diet. There is nothing you can eat or drink that will detoxify you; thatās what your liver and kidneys are for. No healthy person needs to wear a glucose spike monitor; itās a fad indulged by the worried well. As is the cobblers of being interested in āwellnessā, because nobody is interested in āillnessā. People have morals but food doesnāt, so donāt describe dishes as ādirtyā. And stop it with the whole āclean eatingā thing. Itās annoying and vacuous.
I tend to agree with most of this. Particuarly the bit about lighting and menu fonts. My wife generally has to read the menu to me these days.
I had lunch with an old friend last week and he did the honours for me. But I would have preferred to do it myself.
I also hate the waiter who fills up your wine glass whenever you take a sip. Fucking despise that guy.
