In a Republic, actually
‘Senate Republicans want Elon Musk to stop talking about Social Security, and the Department of Government Efficiency to leave it alone. Musk’s statement that Social Security is a “Ponzi scheme,” and his plans to cut up to 12 percent of the Social Security Administration’s workforce, are giving GOP lawmakers heartburn.’

Republicans have only themselves to blame.

What did they think would happen by putting a reckless, irresponsible ignoramus like Musk in the WH, someone who knows nothing about sound governance and responsible public policy.

Republicans have clearly brought America to its lowest point.

For telling the truth?
If you are 67 years old right now and all of the money you paid into social security, instead went into investments that are stable, only averaging 5% - you would have almost $4,000,000.
The average return since the 1980s is actually 11.6%. But you wouldn't do that well likely. So even if you did quite bad considering, only earning 5%.

312-226...looks like a high point for Republicans along with some of your ilk that voted for them.

As Republicans still chant they won’t touch Social Security

They won't because they can't. It would be political suicide for anyone.
The system is too large and millions depend on it, even with it being outrageously inefficient and literally steals money from people on a regular basis in the form of the millions who pay in, and never see a dime because they die before retirement.
It is an enormous failure. But, nevertheless, millions would be homeless and starving without it because it is all they have.

Slashing workforce will have consequences in Social Securities ability to provide services like survivor and disability benefits.
Getting a response from SS will take forever

The interim director is now threatening to turnSocial Security off, and deny employees access to their work.

Yesterday, a court ordered SSA NOT to share your personal data, your bank account numbers, pr your social security number to Elon Musk”s dumpster divers.

So, the Trump regieme is trying to break the law once again, and bully their way to do it.

Which doesn't answer what I said.
I believe you use to work in government, and I have extensive experience providing products and services to government agencies.
You know how mind numbingly bureaucratic, inefficient and over administrated government agencies are. They are maddeningly frustrating ever having to deal with.
They need overhauling. And if they go the route through congress - absolutely nothing will change because Congress only wants status quo. No congress member is going to sign on to anything where people lose their jobs.
So -
Choice A - do nothing. Keep kicking the problem down the road forever until it becomes so large that the nation literally falls under it.
Choice B - do SOMETHING

Yes, I worked 33 years for DoD

Can things be more efficient?
Of course

But agencies have a mission to perform and rules to follow. If you want to cut personnel, change the mission and get rid of unnecessary regulations

But Trump lies and says he can just slash personnel without impacting the ability to perform the mission.
Trump is not interested in efficiency and nobody on DOGE is an efficiency expert.
Trump wants to permanently cripple Government and then declare it disfunctional

I see posts like this and I am saddened at those who do not understand what the program is about.

People who post like this only care about one thing. Themselves.

President Trump is very much committed to deregulating.

Leftists just can't understand that not everyone in an organization is efficient and productive. If you are against removing the inefficiency, you're simply wrong.

We could cut personnel probably while not changing what the program is designed to do BUT not in the way Trump and Musk does it.

We have seen them rush back out to re-hire people they fired because they had absolutely no idea what these people did. They were simply looking for headlines.

Even then it would take some time for logistics. Something Trump has no patience for.

Musk made it clear he is using a Chain Saw to make his cuts
Just make cuts and claim the people you fire are lazy, don’t do anything and won’t be missed.

You don't pay much attention to what you don't want to hear.

Not at all.
I know what SS is all about. And believe it is a VERY needed entity, but not for retirement income. For that - it is an utter disaster,

Many people rely on it for retirement income. It's a mistake to rely only on that for many.
