The House passed a GOP election integrity bill on Wednesday that will bar noncitizens from voting in federal elections, a win for House Republicans as they step up messaging ahead of the 2024 elections.

All Republicans voted to pass the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act, with all but five Democrats voting against the measure. The bill would amend the National Voter Registration Act of 1993 to require people to provide proof of citizenship before registering to vote.

Democrats have blasted the bill as unnecessary GOP messaging on a matter that is already illegal. Democrats have also argued that evidence of instances of noncitizens voting is rare and, even if those ballots were detected, it would do little to sway a presidential election.

“Republicans’ continued election denialism is akin to collective hero syndrome, where individuals create harmful situations, like lighting a fire, only to seek praise for putting the fire out,” Rep. Joseph Morelle (D-NY), ranking member of the Administration Committee, said on the floor ahead of the vote.

The measure will head to the Democratic-controlled Senate, where it will likely be voted down or delayed in being brought to the floor.

Comment:
Why are government agencies giving non-citizens voter registration forms if they are not allowed to vote?
Why did the Democrats allow 10 million people to illegally enter our country?
The Democrats are liars and cheaters.
They have failed to convince mainstream people to vote for them, therefore they are trying to fill America with poor welfare dependent migrants.
Schumer will keep the bill from coming up for a vote in the senate so that the Democrat senators will not go on the record for voting against election integrity.

Incredible that this was not already law, or that this nation NEEDS a law telling it should protect itself from foreign influence, or that anyone in our own government, sworn to uphold the constitution, should oppose that.

This part doesn't surprise me at all. They vote against ALL aspects of election integrity, side with socialist Europe over their own country and want us to be just like them, put other countries ahead of our own people, and vote for and elect people born in other countries like Kenya then pass them off as Hawaiians who run on fundamentally changing the country to better serve foreigners while criminally sneaking in tens of millions of foreign invaders putting their welfare regardless of who they are or where they are from or what they want to do by coming here ahead of the sovereignty and health of our own country, then elect a senile old fool who probably relies on who-knows-who in the shadows to really run the country while his son takes in big bribes from China, Ukraine and Romania for favors by us.

The Left doesn't want to touch this thread. Geeze, wonder why, lol.

Are American citizens allowed to vote in Russian elections?

Now begins the rush by democrats to try and figure out how to instantly turn all illegals into us citizens so they can vote for them.

90% of election fraud, was carried out by people who voted for Trump, using somebody elses absentee ballot.

If they truly wanted to ensure that non-citizens don't vote, they should do what they do in India.

The voter card is issued to all Indian citizens who have attained the age of 18 years and qualify to be a voter. One has to apply on prescribed Form-6 of Election Commission

This can all be done electronically

And they've been doing it since 1993.

And best of all, whether online or at the local office, it's free.

I think Ronald Reagan already did that.

They will not be able to before this election, although I do not think the GOP will get their bill passed either. In essence, it will remain status quo.

India has 1.4 billion people.
The US has 333 million people
In India there is one system for voter registration. In the US there are 57 of them.

Here in Indiana, (probably in other states also) we have what is called "real ID." Without it, you can not enter Fed buildings after the start of next year, and you have to produce your birth certificate along with other forms of ID to get it. It can also be used to re-enter the country, much like a passport.

The "real ID" is DIFFERENT for citizens, and non citizens, which when you go to vote can be seen easily. Also in Indiana, you must show a drivers license, (which is now the real ID) or some other form of identification to get your ballot.

This is how it should be! The citizens who PAY THE FREIGHT should be the only ones allowed to vote. Even people who are citizens that do not actually pay income tax, should consider that the more hands reaching into the cookie jar, the less cookies left for you!

In effect the Indiana "real ID" is like a poll tax. Since you have to pay, in order to vote.

Is that your point?

Nope, you get it when you renew your license for the same price. Is a license a poll tax? If you suggest it is, then I assume you are driving without one-)

As I pointed out. India has an ID card used for voting and other purposes, and it's free

Don't quote me, but I believe ours is free for senior citizens, and those on public assistance also. The rest of us pay the freight because----------->75% of adults have drivers licenses that they must pay to have renewed....which is fair. If you can afford to drive, you can afford 16 bucks for a drivers license.(real ID)

It is all just semantics. In India, most people do not drive, or certainly 1/2, so maybe it should be for free. Here, almost all adults have a drivers license, so the charge is built in when you renew.

It's discounted for seniors, but it's not free.
To get one for free, you have to prove indigence, by filling out a 28622 form.

It may require bank statements, tax forms, and other financial disclosures.

So why do we link voting to paying for a license, that the poor would have trouble affording. And remember, a homeless person has just the same right to vote, yet due to their condition, don't have a "home" to store all their necessary documentation to get an ID. Even though years prior they provided all that information to get an ID that's now expired.

Ex: An 80 year old who hasn't driven (or renewed their drivers license) in 20 years. Yet can't use that license, for which they showed all the necessary identifications for, just because it's expired.

But that means they can't drive, but they're still the person they were 20 years ago.

Please, you have to pay to take a shit in most Dem states there's nothing they don't tax and fee.
Except they aren't allowed to impose a cost, in order to vote. That's unconstitutional.

It would have been easier to have the law note that, to register, one must have a state issued Real ID license of Identification card, and that states must provide such licensing free. Registration can be done online and requires that ID # as a reference. Requiring someone to physically register is burdensome and contrasts with how most persons register.
