Well I can see we will get no answers from the righties, since they have none, so just to be polite I will answer your question.
Yes, I believe that it is demand that drives the economy and therefore we need to stimulate demand. Trickle down has clearly failed.
By the way, if you can think of an idea I'd be willing to debate the pros and cons of said idea.

Lets take the recent uproar over the AIG bonuses.
The govt just taxed them (obama should veto it) at 90%. Whats the govt going to do with it? Buy Toxic Mortgages! Great! One time shot and its done.
Had they paid those bonuses to the AIG execs (and they will in the end), what likely would have happened? These guys/gals would have probably spent it on...say a new house, big house. Some builder gets paid and goes and buys other things, equipment for instance, several subs contractors work for several months on a big new house for the AIG exec. House had to have carpet, buy the carpet, house has to have drywall hire the workers, house has to have electricity hire the electrician, house has to have a drive way hire the concrete man, house needs a pool hire the pool man, house has to be landscaped hire the landscaper, house needs furniture, refridgerator, oven range.....and on and on people, Americans get hired to perform these tasks and they get taxed but also buy things they need, maybe even a new house (though smaller) as well......THIS IS THE AMERICAN ECONOMY. This is how our economy works.
The govt takes the $160 million, and its done. Like dropping a rock onto a street rather than into a pond. The pond (private economy) will ripple throughout the economy many many times providing sustenance throughout positively affecting many many lives.
The govt bought a bad mortgage. Whew. My pocket is already heavier with the money I saw from that........
I will take the stock market under Repubs. Dont forget Clinton went kicking and screaming signing the legislation after 1994 signing welfare reform (which obama has put back into place, btw).
You realize LBJ has spent well over a trillion dollars on the War on Poverty. obama has proposed spending more money than every president from GWashington through Bush43.
Dems regulate to restrict your freedoms. And you like that?

Everytime the Repubs cut taxes, the deficit has soared. The Repubs, the party of free candy: "Here have a tax cut and vote Repub!"
If the Repubs were serious the would say something like we want to cut taxes and here are the programs we want to end so we can keep the budget balanced. But Repubs never do that they just put Arthur Laffer on TV to talk about how the 'Laffer Curve' theory says that if we cut taxes we'll get more tax revenue.
