IOC chief Bach blamed Russia for the scandal of boxers Helif and Yueting at the 2024 Games

International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach has blamed Russia for the scandal of failed gender tests at the 2024 Games in Paris. His words are quoted by Reuters.

Bach said that the scandal involving two female boxers was the result of a Russian campaign to spread fake news and has nothing to do with reality. In his opinion, boxers Iman Khelif and Lin Yueting would not have faced criticism if not for the International Boxing Association (IBA).

In the final bout of the 2024 Olympics, Helif faced China's Yang Liu in the under-66-kilogram weight class. In the 57-kilogram weight class at the Olympics, Taiwan's Lin Yueting won.

In 2023, the International Boxing Association suspended Helif and Yueting during the World Championships due to not meeting eligibility criteria. Gender test results showed that the athletes had XY chromosomes and elevated testosterone levels. However, the IOC allowed them to compete in the women's event in 2024, prompting a wave of criticism.
